Problem with Virgin [Merged]

I am upset with Virgin Media - they want to charge £20 plus a monthly fee for us to be able to stream. A service which was working perfectly until today. I would rather cancel than be blackmailed.

Do they have reps on here that can explain this policy? The girl on the phone can't.

What service are you using? I thought their broadband was unlimited.

So did I! Everything has been working fine but today a message came up saying there was not enough bandwidth. I thought the same as you that I was OK so I rang them. As I say they want £20 one off then £5 a month!

Sounds like they want to upgrade you to a new service and charge a hub upgrade plus a new rental amount.
Presumably you're on some sort of legacy contract. Are you getting the speed you're currently paying for? Check it on a wired connection if you can.

If there's a problem with your service, they fix it for free, and it often involves a hub upgrade if you've got an old one. I've never paid for a router from them and am currently on their Superhub 3. It isn't "super" but is better than its predecessors!

It's either a very old limited legacy deal in which case the chances are that you're paying too much anyway, or it's a scam. Which number did you phone?

BTW, there may be more help available if a mod could move the thread to the broadband forum:-

[STRIKE]That really sounds like a scam. How did you see the message, and did you ring a number in the message or a general customer service number?[/STRIKE]
    Never mind, cross-posted

Where did you see this message, and what were you doing at the time?
Do check the speed you are getting - try www.speedtest.net - and compare what it tells you to what your contract says. VM do generally deliver the rated speed.

Have you phoned and ask them to disconnect your service tell them you can get better service for less and quote them some deals from MSE. Should get a instant 50% discount on your current package.
