Hi everyone
Pania, thank you, your thread has inspired me.
The poop hit the fan for me at this time last year and I've been lurching from one financial and emotional crisis to another for the whole year. Since I came on here in June, it's been one step forward and two steps back - mostly because I've not been very sensible and I've spent too much time faffing around (I do have lots of beautiful spreadsheets and a more in-depth knowledge of Excel).
Well, I'm fed up now. It's time for the faffing to stop.
I've set myself a personal challenge to have credit cards and other miscellaneous debts clear by Xmas next year (there's a loan too, but I'll think about that later).
I don't have a very good track record with challenges (apologies to anyone whose challenge I joined and then disappeared!), so I won't officially join you, but would it be okay if I hitched a ride now and then?

Hey guys!! thanks for the replies,
Cat thanks for the suggestions re the savings account, i really appreciate that and will be off for a look-see shortly. could always freeze the card to if not i guess.
Dslj and Pollydaydream you are both more than welcome to join in and hitch a ride when you need to, always here, think i'm in it for the long haul!!!!
Pengiun I have a pony, the love of my life, and yes just sometimes he costs a fortune!! esp last year when he had locking stifles and had to be operated on, thank god for insurance!!!!!!! (or my debt would be £4500 to the dearer!!) But hey, we can't get rid of them, money pits or not, i'd rather go without than go without him. (if only i looked at all men that way!! te he!!)
Well, looks asthough we've had a little stroke of luck for once, just been to MILs for dinner and their nextdoor neighbour is selling a ford sierra for 170 quid!!!!! looked on autotrader and it is worth £800!!! apparently it belongs to the deceased grandfather and it hurts to have it around, so OH and i may go halves on it and sell it for whatever profit we can make! woohoo!!!debt @05/11/11 £12210.63!! slowly chipping away!!:heart2:impossible is nothing.:heart2:0 -
The profit from the car will really boost start things. My OH has done a similar thing with a friends car that was no longer wanted, we should end up with about 600 profit.
Ive had my horse since I was 11, she is 35 now, has had a broken leg and a stroke but would never part with her. Another horse will be the first thing I save for when I am debt free. My son and daughter are both keen as well so have a sneaking suspicion we are going to end up with a fair few horses in years to come!! x xPay Debt by Xmas 16 - 0/12000
There is something about the outside of a horse that is good for the inside of a man.0 -
my little boy is 3 and i've had him since 4 months, he was sold to me as 7 months old but still ahd his foal tips and vet said he was 4 months if he was a day. had him on milk replacement for another 5 months and he has been left with a wonky back leg as a result hence the locking stifles. he cost me £135 as a sympathy purchase made with no forthought whatsoever and so far has cost me (aka petplan insurance) nearly 8 grand in vets fees (think most i've paid is £350 to have his nuts chopped!! ;-)
he has kicked me (breaking my wrist in the process, bitten me, caused me endless sleepless nights wondering how to pay for his keep but now is very well behaved and I can finally relax and start to enjoy him, he has been worth it all though and like you he's here to stay. In used to do alot of showjumping in my early 20's and it is my dream when i have lost this debt to go back to that again and find a horse to showjump. gosh we have so many dreams when in debt don't we. I WILL get where i want to be, living in new zealand, taking samson with me to enjoy the lovely green grass they have over there in the South island. will be living in the country with the other love of my life (besides DP). that is my goal in all this and that is what i aim forand think about at every time i post on my diary. Everytime i pay a pound off my debt is a pound nearer to living my dream.
Anyway, ramble over, sorry. xxxdebt @05/11/11 £12210.63!! slowly chipping away!!:heart2:impossible is nothing.:heart2:0 -
That's a wonderful incentive Pania, just imagine the joy on DP's face when he sees all that NZ grass! I sold my horse two years ago when money got too tight, didn't really bond with her so it was a relief to let her go.
I went to visit my first pony yesterday... I owned him for 7 years before a friend bought him off me when I moved overseas for a few years. She still has him but he is 42 now!! Looks a bit ribby now and back has sunk but full of character still! I love horses and intend to cut my hours down to 4 days a week when debt free and get another horse, that is my dream. xx
Best of luck to you in achieving your dream. :TSecond and final LBM 01/01/11 Nearly got there but fell of wagon. HAVE to do it this time :mad:0 -

Why do you like New Zealand?
New zealand is beautiful, the air is pure, the scenery is breathtaking, the world is ten years behind us re crime rates, everyone has time for you and there seem to be 28 hours in every day..... Plus.... I have a very good friend there.
When i first went there i had to spend a day driving from Napier to Pahia. prob about the equivalent distance of london to Blackpool. I got there at 11 o'clock at night and drove over the hill into pahia. I felt like i'd gone home and that is the only time in my life i have ever felt that way. I have been craving to live there ever since that day and won't feel truly settled until I am.

I have been jiggling figures and can't see me getting to £15 off debt by Xmas 08 (that would make me debt free!) but will settle for £10K starting from my payday on Friday (have already done overtime + worked on a second job) so have made a good start.
BEST WISHES TO EVERYONE ON THEIR CHALLENGES!
Pania, going back to your "what is a pub" comment - this smiley is the only time I get to see beer . so we will have to settle for our virtual pub. Cheers!Second and final LBM 01/01/11 Nearly got there but fell of wagon. HAVE to do it this time :mad:0 -
hey squirrel, i love the addition to the sig!! you go girl and good luck!!
if we don't get to see the inside of a pub perhaps we should go on one of the meets that were being arranged, plenty of pub inside seeing goes on there if blackpool is anything to go by! although i have to admit to being a little concerned re ZTD's comments on married men!!:rotfl:
off to iron a shirt, back shortly.debt @05/11/11 £12210.63!! slowly chipping away!!:heart2:impossible is nothing.:heart2:0 -
Hey Pania
I love your post on New Zealand. When I was slobbing about this weekend not-doing the housework challenge, I was daydreaming, and y'know, I see myself in a nice big old apartment in Barcelona.... Spanish lifestyle and food suit me.... I love the language.... I'm kind of surprised, but thats what I was daydreaming.... so, here I go. The £15k challenge will help me get there.2023: the year I get to buy a car0
