BT Fibre monopoly on my property

Most dont need the silly 150 meg plus speeds .
A reliable 50/10 would cover most of our needs .
Time has made a fool of people who have said many things like this!
Tbh its not difficult to saturate 50mb. 2 ultra HD def streams and you're done. Even with lesser content its not hard. Throw in a VPN and you can lose 30% easily; congestion at peak times and perhaps the same again...0 -
openreach have only installed FTTP
It's the govements fault really. Trying to get our network up in line with the rest of the modern world.
Though I do feel sorry for new home owners (in many ways)0 -
Plus net are owned by BT so I cannot see why you could not switch to them, BT bought PN in 2004.Someone please tell me what money is0

PN said in post one they do not supply FTTP service .0

OR have a deal for developers to wire up their site for FTTP for zero cost. Virgin have a similar offering

Downside is that 1st contract probably needs to be with BT. OR won't install copper to a premises already supplied with FTTP.0 -
Sky likely to start using OR FTTP late 2019 is a bit of recent news .0

Overall, I think what's possibly unfair is that openreach have only installed FTTP when options are limited and expensive as not everyone can afford it. But I suppose in a few years when more providers are offering it and when it's no longer an issue I'll be grateful to have higher speeds.
But would you not be attacking BT if they only installed old fashioned and out of date copper cable, and your speed was limited to 1Mb? What have your neighbours had to say? Up until two years ago, I was on less than 2Mb download for years and would have given anything for fibre only to the premises.
BT seem to be damned if they do and damned if they don't."There are not enough superlatives in the English language to describe a 'Princess Coronation' locomotive in full cry. We shall never see their like again". O S Nock0 -
I'm in a new build with FTTP and had the option of either BT or Sky.
I can't find the site that I used prior to moving in to find what services were available but I'm sure that I checked Samknows for details of my local exchange and services available. I've just gone back to that site and it now doesn't even acknowledge that I have got FTTP!
All I can suggest is contacting Sky directly and have them check availability for your specific property. As you found, even though Plusnet are part of BT they can't supply the service. I tried before moving as I was a Plusnet customer but they couldn't help.0 -
I'm in a similar situation but as I was aware before I moved to my new build, I planned ahead. I got myself on a good deal at my old premises where there was competition and then just gave BT my new address. I pay £23.99 a month for 80/20. Strangely they insisted I start a new 18 month contract which I bit their hand off for!0
