That should say real world range not real work range. For some reason it won’t let me edit.

I thought that must be the case. But if that's true, I can't see how an EV really is a viable proposition for anything more than about 50 miles or so, during the winter. Even those that claim to have a range of 180 miles or whatever, I bet that's halved if the heater is on full belt constantly ?

In my EV the range drops a bit less than 10% with the heater on. So you'd lose your bet. :D

Its a common misunderstanding from those who have no experience of EVs to wildly overestimate how much lights heating and even radio consume, probably thinking they'll turn the volume up and the car judders to a halt. I can get 100 from mine in the winter.

Next car will be 200. That's Winter, Summer will be about 250. 250 miles for less than a tenner. Easily £30 and most likely £40-£50 on petrol or diesel.

Which is why high (but not ridiculous*) commutes by people like the OP can be very lucrative on an EV. Not to mention a nicer ride.

And at the moment n if you buy a s/h EV odds are you can sell it in 2/3 years time for the same money. Perhaps that will stop as the big numbers come in from the new cars due next couple of years.

    * if you want to frequently drive 400 miles at night without stopping be my guest but a better job might be an idea?
