Neighbour trespassed and hacked our hedge down

I've decided I'm going to go round tomorrow. It will be on my own unfortunately:( as he'll be at work and I'm just gonna ask what happened. Discuss why they want rid of it. Explain that legally I cannot take it down until nesting season is over so however I feel about removing it there is nothing I can do right now. Explain that I'm going to buy some of that trellis with the fake leaves ect on to give us back our privacy and make it clear that they are not to touch that at all.
If it goes well I'll cancel the pscos coming round. If they are horrible to me then I will keep the appointment. I feel like if they don't listen to me and I cancel them coming round they will just rip my trellis off. Some might think it is a over reaction but they are retirement age adults and therefore should act like them and respect the law and our wishes on our property.
I hope everyone agrees with my tactic. I've never had to do anything like this so please wish me luck and confidence because I'm gonna need it!! The thought of it right now is making me feel sick. If anyone has anything else they think I should mention please let me know!
I see the police are taking it seriously. :rotfl:0 -

Oh ALWAYS say hello with a smile. Doesn't cost anything and can pay dividends at at the end of the day.
Some people just thrive on confrontation and WINNING. When the result is really down to compromise.
Doesn't always work, but you have to try first before the war starts.
Smile and say hello anyway. They may not respond, but you will always know that you tried.
GET the trellis up on your side of the boundary ASAP anyway. It is your right.
I usually just smile now, it gets a bit awkward after a while getting ignored but I feel even more awkward doing nothing haha!
I was thinking about putting the trellis either behind the hedge or inside of it? I'm not sure what's best really because technically it's all my hedge to do with what I please so I'd like it to look presentable on the side I have to look at more than theirs seeing as they ruined it but don't want them ripping it back down 😅0 -

But the police aren't coming.0 -

Escalating this to police involvement is OTT. There are ways and means to resolve this without resorting to police involvement. As if they will come out to a person's house because of a hedge issue? Come on!
But I am getting a spidey feeling about OP. Sorry now, no offence intended.
The advice so far has been given with good intent.0 -

Do you want to explain what Spidey feeling means?! And to say no offence usually means you're being offensive so why bother saying anything?
Some of the advice has been great yes and I'm doing what has been said tomorrow...
I actually messaged their non emergency advice service and they said they would like to come out so?! I can show you the proof if you really want to get pathetic about a issue that is not yours. At the end of the day my main issue is that he came into MY garden. Not yours. Mine. Maybe I'll pop round to yours come into your garden without permission if you as welcoming as you soundmaybe you'll pop the kettle on for me. I wasn't obviously inviting enough to this stranger in my garden. :T:beer:

OP, you know well. Will leave it there. My intentions were good, but you have exposed yourself as a troll IMV. Thankfully I realised it in time.
Hedges or us ha ha.0 -
I'd be thankful the neighbour was thoughtful enough to clear up every single shred of cuttings from the lawn too, he did a stellar job there and managed to leave all the dead leaves in place.Accept your past without regret, handle your present with confidence and face your future without fear0
