Can someone, anyone, explain to me how/why it's ok for a shop to tell you an optional extra is in fact mandatory with the product?:huh::huh::huh:

The sale was not completed until both parties agreed and the payment processed.

Your mother was a willing party in the process, they didn't force your mother to complete the purchase, she, with your support, could have walked away at any time, could have changes the lenses, could have changed the frames.

Why didn't you speak up for your mother at the time?

    You didn't, You didn't, You didn't, You didn't, You didn't, You didn't, You didn't, You didn't, You didn't, You didn't, You didn't, You didn't,You didn't, You didn't, You didn't, You didn't, You didn't, You didn't, You didn't, You didn't, You didn't, You didn't, You didn't, You didn't,

No it's not like the difference between a £5k and £50k car. This shows you have not done any research like i told you too because you don't understand.

Digital Signals are basically "off/on" or "1 / 0" which is information used to create a digital picture. As long as the information is received by the television the picture will be produced. The cable either works and a picture is produced or it doesn't work.
There is no in between and no matter how good a cable is it will not improve the quality of the picture because that would be impossible.
Oh wow, you mean like bits & bytes and all things computery :j

From now on I'm going to tell everyone to just buy HDMI 1.0 cables and not to be conned into anything fancy when they get their 8k tellies.....

You said she didn't want thin lenses and they pressured her into it. So at that point you should have said "We will have these glasses with the thick lenses please" and stopped the salesperson trying to convince her further.
If they kept on i would have said you can get glasses at a fraction of the price online so we are leaving.

The fact you were there for hours and they exhausted your mum with sales talk shows you just let them do it when you should have just stopped them when she decided what she wanted and went to the till.
You're right I'm a bad person and must punish myself with 40 days & nights in the Sahara...

Right off to buy a camel..... :j

At least one of the big chains pay the sales assistant commission on ' the extras'.

If they taking so long then you could have said" this is taking too long. We will just take the prescription at present and get the specs later."

At any point you could have complained and left.

We use our local optician who gives excellent service. We have used them for years. The staff have never changed and are very friendly, know us by sight, but I have never been asked how my test went , nor would I expect it.

With specialist equipment and a scientist you'll be shown the difference between a £5 and £50 high quality HDMI cable.
Ok, I am actually a scientist (specifically a physicist) and I don't need specialist equipment to tell you you are wrong. If you had spent a few minutes on google as someone suggested, you'd know why.

And yes, there is no need to recommend anything other than a basic HDMI cable for even the most expensive AV set-up, as long as it meets the minimum standard for the set-up. In practice, that means a 2 metre HDMI cable costing £5 will be no different to one costing £50 in terms of image and sound quality. The only differences might be in the quality of the cable outer but since HDMI cables tend to sit passively and aren't subjected to unravelling, twisting, being stepped on, etc. that makes no difference in practice.

Brilliant....from this point on I'm never going to buy a cable again - just make them out of kitchen foil strips insulated with old newspaper.... :T

So you think a HDMI 2.0 cable costs £50+ is that really your argument :rotfl: It sounds like a salesman has convinced you to buy a very expensive cable and now your trying to justify it.

HDMI 2.0 supports 8k up to 30fps and they cost less than £5 like i said.

Your just making yourself look pretty silly now because all this information is available with a simple search.

Well i'm sure it's punishment enough that your poor old mother is down £79 due to your inaction. But make sure next time someone goes with her who doesn't believe everything salespeople say.

Still not doing five minutes' research then? Why does that not surprise me. There's a definite pattern forming. It seems you prefer to argue and be silly rather than actually learn things and acknowledge that others might know more than you about a particular subject, whether that's some introductory physics or retail law.

Ignorance and stubbornness make for a wonderful combination.
