Disagreement is the foundation of discussion....
You are all entitled to your opinions as apparently we live in a democracy.
I asked a question on a forum where I considered other users are knowledgeable in the subject matter and could give their opinion.0 -
Seems I'm being attacked for asking about a consumer experience in a consumer forum.

I can't see where you are being attacked though, just people disagreeing with you.
So why didn't you take your custom elsewhere when you found out about the actual price?0 -

And they have.GP told her to go for an eye test to include having her eye pressures measured and the results noted and returned to the surgery.
So she should have just paid for the eye test, obtained the prescription and gone back to the Doctor, ignoring the 'hard sell'0 -
But there's a £30 charge to remove lenses from old frames
My suggestion that I have a hammer which can remove them for free wasn't acceptable......
Nothing wrong here, its what they charge for removing the lenses, other opticians could be cheaper. Your mum could have walked away at this point or when the price was pointed out later on.The lady assistant then asks whether my mum uses a computer and would like the lenses to be 'anti-glare'... at a bargain price of £19.
No thank you, my mum doesn't use a computer - she's an OAP with no interest in social media.
Ive not been sold "anti glare" on glasses I wear when Im using a pc, Ive asked about it before and been told its for driving but not much point in it as "apparently" the windscreen has a coating which would render the anti glare useless.
It sounds like its Specsavers ?0 -
The thing with opticians is you need to play them.
Take up the free eye test and then take away your prescription. My last pair of reading glasses cost me £12 delivered.
Don't know why people always feel they have to purchase from the place that did the test. Shop around like you would for anything else!0 -

Assuming it is free ... may depend on status or location. (Eye tests are free here in Scotland, once every 2 years I believe).0 -

You are not being attacked.
You asked if the scenario was mis-selling or fraud, and those with lots of consumer knowledge told you no.
You then questioned this and were given similar examples.
If they were being pushy in the shop, then the phrase "actually, I'll just have my prescription thanks and leave the glasses" was needed.
Opticians are private businesses and they use sale tactics to make money, including pushy sales.
Perhaps practice some assertiveness techniques for next time? It is not always easy to say no.Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')
No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)0 -
I find opticians really helpful.
They give you the right advice , tell you what will work and won't work, and it's up to you to take it from there.
I don't see anything particularly out of the ordinary with your scenario.
Well apart from the hammer obviously0 -
Sorry I don't understand - what does your post mean in plain English please not riddles.
No attack, no unfriendliness, just pointing out the contradiction of asking for views then disagreeing with them when they aren't what you want to hear.0
