  • Hi Sunday peeps :D Mid day and not a lot achieved round here today!

    So far:

    * sowed BNS, Crown Prince Squash, cucumbers (only 2 of my 3 germinated. Which would be enough but they can be sniffy so gone for broke with 4 more!), Goji berries & chillis (late in the day but worth the shot I thought. I can always bring them in when the season turns!)

    * put away 3 loads of washing  & tidied bedrooms

    * played a number bonds to 20 game with madam - her homework

    * have got joint of pork out for dinner but don't know if I have the energy to make a roast. If not will have lo spag from yesterday ;)

    * oh & madam taken pup out for a walk with parentals. I'm going to go back to bed and read for a bit :)

Back from my day out - it was fun. We went to the Yorkshire Sculpture Park, which is free to get into but costs £12 to park all day. I guess they're trying to encourage people to walk or cycle, but as it's an hour's drive away I didn't have much option. Weather was lovely, enjoyed being a bit cultured, and great to catch up with a good friend. Not saying it's ages since we last met up - but between us we've had 3 grandchildren!!

Filled another bucket from the shower this morning. I've decided to worry less about whether people think it's weird and more about how it's good for the planet and my wallet!! Got home in good time to put the chicken in the oven, so will be having roast chicken with potatoes (39p for a big bag from Aldi), swede and white cabbage, with gravy and home made stuffing. Total cost of the meal I reckon is less than 50p. Rubber chicken day 1. For pudding I'll be having rhubarb - someone gave me some free rhubarb, which I stewed and divided up into portions and froze. Think I'll add a crumble topping to this one and pop it in the oven seeing as it's on anyway for the chicken. Now I just need to go and get the washing in - trouble is, I've sat down. Should have done it as soon as I got in. Silly me.

Good plan - it is nobody else's business whether you keep a bucket in your bathroom anyway!

Low spend today, just £1.25 for some kale plants at the market this morning :) Planted them in gaps in the raspberry bed, not sure whether they will do any good there, but worth a try!
Also potted up French bean plants, which I had sown, for some reason, in ridiculously small modules, and spaced out basil seedlings (not allowed to use the proper horticultural term here as they seem to think it is a rude word :rotfl:)
Watered everything in the garden that needed it

All food was from home, cooked a lamb joint, bought half price from Sains the other day, for dinner :)
We have decided to go away in the camper van for a couple of days, so have spent some time loading it up, as we took everything out of it for the winter. All done now, just clothes etc and food to pack now... and the dog of course! We will take most of our food with us, to keep costs down.
Must remember to check seedlings again and put recycling out in the morning before we go!

  • Evening everyone - had a frugal weekend :) Today was a NSD and yesterday was a LSD - just spent less than a tenner in Mr C including a YS French stick which I used for lunch today and for snacks and probably be ok for lunch tomorrow too. Also not used my car since Friday eve! Have had washing on the line today as it finally stopped raining. Walked to my friends this afternoon and she gave me some rhubarb from her friend's allotment so hoping to add that to yoghurt for breakfast tomorrow.
My spendy week has ended well!
