DawnW - love the idea of growing food to eat. I only have a front garden (just hard standing at the back), and a couple of pots, so options are a bit limited. Thinking about just sticking some veggies in the flower bed and seeing how long it takes for anyone to notice!!

The pasta stocks are going down at long last. Only half a bag of pasta twists, a box of lasagne and some couscous left. Macaroni was finished last week, and I used the last of the gluten free pasta at lunch time. Still some lentils, some pearl barley and quite a lot of risotto rice, so I'm not short of carbs!! I bought some potatoes yesterday - a big bag for 39p at Aldi, as they were on their best before date. Nothing wrong with them, they'll keep for ages yet in the fridge. Lots of different sizes, which I like - some good for jackets, and others for boiling or mashing or making into potato salad.

Had a frustrating day - needed to query something with Uber, and find out from edf why my smart meter isn't working. Uber needed a scan of a document - and lo and behold my scanner decided not to work. 2 hours on chat/phone with Apple to get it sorted (but we got it sorted !!), by which time I'd nearly forgotten why I was trying to use the scanner in the first place!! EDF owe me a new smart meter. They know that, I know that - but they're making me jump through hoops to get it. Latest thing is they want me to send them photos of my new (second generation) gas and electric meters. I've already sent them the serial numbers they asked for. Mighty frustrating.

I mentioned the amount of water that I waste every time I run a shower, just waiting for the water to get warm. Nearly a bucketful - enough to flush the toilet twice! Will be keeping the bucket in the shower from now on - is that too weird? Will use the water either for flushing or for watering the garden, a crime to waste it.

La escocesa - wishing you all the best. Hope you manage to go into labour sooner rather than later. xx

Spinach (the perpetual kind) and chard are the easiest things to grow, and so productive! I have just taken out 3 spinach plants that lasted from about this time last year till today when I took them out as they are going to seed, and I have cut huge numbers of leaves from them over that time! 'Ordinary' spinach (ie not the perpetual kind)is lovely too, but doesn't last so long and goes to seed quickly. I use spinach and chard interchangeably too DNMS, they are so similar.

totally agree. I love it that it grows, keeps growing, dies back a bit over winter but you can still harvest and then it comes back again in the spring for a last push before going to seed over the next month. I'll do a big harvest, wash, chop and freeze before digging up, which will last me until the next lot is ready for harvest :D

I just sowed 6 seeds a couple of days ago :D

  • Hi everyone

    - Try to go into labour :rotfl:

That's the main plan - I'll let you know how it goes :rotfl:

some of the old wives tales are fun and could help you while away the hours before going in to labour :kisses3:

It really is a win win situation! :rotfl:

Wow, I didn't realise you are due already - or is it just that you are fed up with being pregnant? :) Make the most of this time before Junior arrives, and get all the rest that you can :heartsmil!

What does it matter if anyone notices? My garden is only little, with pots on gravel at the front, which I mainly use for flowers, and pots and raised beds at the back, where I grow veg, fruit, herbs and flowers all jumbled up higgledy piggledy :) Why not check out Alys Fowler's book 'The Edible Garden' from the library - she has no qualms at all about planting veg in her flower borders and vice versa. And if it is good enough for Alys...
Seriously, you can grow a lot in a small space. I reckon I can find something to eat in my garden on most days of the year, even if it is only herbs for flavouring. Today we had salad leaves and chives :) The salad leaves are grown in containers at this time of the year, and the chives seed themselves everywhere if I let them!

Managed to motivate myself a bit to pull out one of the composters, which has been closed up all winter (OH helped with this as due to tedious health issues I am not supposed to do heavy stuff - though I quite often do :o). Got nearly enough compost out for 5 large tubs, so I will only need to buy another couple of bags :T

Quick post as I'm going to be out and about today. Meeting up with a friend - she's my 'bestest friend from school', so we've known each other nearly 50 years!! We can go years without seeing each other, but we do try to get together now and again, and today's the day. So, a few expenses - entry cost of the place we're going to, plus lunch, plus fuel to get there. But as it only happens once in a blue moon, I can justify it. Looks like the weather should be reasonable - not as good as last weekend, but not as bad as yesterday!!

I've already got a load of washing in, which will be hung outside before I go and should be dry by the time I get back. I normally cook a chicken on a Sunday evening, which feeds me for half the week, so I'll see what time I get back - it might be delayed until tomorrow.

    Morning all :hello:

Not much of my list achieved yesterday but did manage to sort through 4 boxes and sort them down to one :T lots of stuff out the house and other stuff a home found :T

    Other things today:

Use vouchers for free cake and drink vouchers when we go to big town for DH to donate blood. They run out in 2 days so perfect timing.
Charge hybrid car for free in the car park
    Meals from stores
Finalise meal plan, just check what I might need - hopefully not a lot
    Go for a run
    Do packed lunches for tomorrow
Get some veggies curry out of freezer that'll do me lunches for a couple of days

Think about some pictures to go in spare room, will shop from home first :D
  • CLF, following on from my advice earlier, you could also smash a pound of meat and 12 eggs a day for your meals. This would help lift more, although is neither good for DFW or the waistline :rotfl:

Haaa I don't need excuses to eat more :D

Although I do make a reasonable effort to keep my protein high. I aim for 90-120g a day. Although i'm not tolerating scrambled egg well recently which is a pain cos I hate egg whites.
