Insane soaring wine prices in Watirose

Interestingly, the Louis Latour is being advertised on their web site as "£11.49, 25% off, was £15.49". Some sharp practice perhaps?
I split my shopping between my local farm shop, Aldi, and Waitrose.
I find Waitrose can be extremely good value because they keep sending me 20% discount coupons. Combine those with the special offers and they can be cheaper than Aldi.
I bought 6 bottles of their own brand Port last week. Priced at £7.69 a bottle but with 25% off and a 20% voucher, they come in at £4.61 a bottle.
And I bought President butter recently at £1.20 a pack.
ETA: I have an offer on one of my Amex cards for 10% off every time at Morrisons. So I'll be buying some more John Lewis gift cards to use in Waitrose!
Although I find Waitrose very expensive, the quality is always there, and as you say the coupons make a big difference - we were getting spend £40 get £6 off.
I thyink the wine is way overpriced and I get a lot from France.
The exchange rate is around 1.15 to £ today so that is better than I was getting last year in France.
Lidl and Aldi throw up some real bargains, their basic CdR is great, New World Pinot Noir, bubbly.
Last year in France, I was buying 1er Cru Burgundy for around a tenner from supermarkets and they would put the Louis Latour stuff to shame.
We stayed in the Champagne region - Bouzy - and bought six bottles of Grand Cru Champagne from the grower @ £19 each, whereas the UK list price for the same Champagne is £37 a bottle.0 -
The local Aldi that opened in my town seems absolutely fine.
At least it seems fine observed from a distance, never been in it :rotfl:0 -
Why the snobbery?
Lidls parmesan is the best I can get ( only have supermarket choices, no cheese specialists unless I go to Belfast) and their Extra mature - well I just can not buy enough of it
Their meat ( over here in NI at least) is excellent and their in store bakery has the best bread out of all the supermarkets
You are lucky, living in Kensington, you have a good selection of specialist shops, not everyone is so lucky. Most of us have to deal with supermarkets ( and we don't have Waitrose here) and lidl gives excellent quality for the price they charge
They also do some very nice wines. Yes they do the bog standards 4'99 a bottle, which is still drinkable, but they also do some lovely wines at the £8/9 mark which would easily cost £12/15 in Waitrose or Sainsburys
My country can make nuclear weapons, but they can't make a decent cheese.
She and her family prefer our cheese to the ones in her country, so she'll take some from here to there when she goes back to see them.0 -
I thought it was just me but everytime we shop at Sainsburys,Asda,M & S etc i have noticed that the price of most wines has gone up a lot in the last few years.0
