Hi All,

I have noticed that Waitrose is really taking the !!!! since 3 years about their wine prices, I guess Brexit is the good occasion to put some good increase on product they sell in general but in the case of the wine, they are laughing at people.

This is sad because they are the only supermarket wiht a decent choice of wines.

What I have noticed is that wines took a 25% (at least) mark up since 2016.

Some wines such as Bourgogne Louis Latour red and White went from around £11.50 to £15.49 today

Also, some good quality Rioja Reserva such Beriona or Baron de Ley went from £8/£9 to 12£/£14.

And so on..

They are trying to make you swallow the pill by "regurlarly" having some 25% discount on them but I think this is really bad practices from Waitrose, it does not fool anybody.

Now sadly, as a very small wine amateur, my wine is more and more the taste the difference from Sainsbury that you often have between 6 and 8 pounds the bottle for some fairly OK quality wine, Unfortunately, Sainsbury is quite far in terms of choices compare to Waitrose.

Thanls for reading and let me know if you have noticed the same sort of increase on your side

Bite the bullet and try some Aldi ones...you may be pleasently
    surprised.

You may have to kiss a few frogs to find a prince to your taste.
How's it going, AKA, Nutwatch? - 12 month spends to date = 2.60% of current retirement "pot" (as at end May 2025)

It’s not just the wine.... even the food prices are becoming ‘how much??’

Don’t care how cheap or allegedly good Aldi/Lidl are you couldn’t pay me enough to shop there. The whole experience is just nasty.

You couldn't pay me to shop at Waitrose. Aldi every time for me, their wine selection is excellent.

    Why the snobbery?

Lidls parmesan is the best I can get ( only have supermarket choices, no cheese specialists unless I go to Belfast) and their Extra mature - well I just can not buy enough of it

Their meat ( over here in NI at least) is excellent and their in store bakery has the best bread out of all the supermarkets

You are lucky, living in Kensington, you have a good selection of specialist shops, not everyone is so lucky. Most of us have to deal with supermarkets ( and we don't have Waitrose here) and lidl gives excellent quality for the price they charge

They also do some very nice wines. Yes they do the bog standards 4'99 a bottle, which is still drinkable, but they also do some lovely wines at the £8/9 mark which would easily cost £12/15 in Waitrose or Sainsburys

I do not drink wine myself, Southern Comfort is my poison but my OH bought a bottle of red in there the other day for around £4.

He thought he would just give it a try and he was shocked how good it was.

You considered that the prices are increased by the producer and passed onto the supermarket who then passes it onto the consumer.

    Get your Sainsburys shopping delivered.

Try Aldi or Lidl, for wine theres also Majestic or even Laithwaite Wines.

Not nasty, I like Aldi/Lidl, you load the conveyor belt and pay then your out, no chit chat at the checkouts like at other retailers. I cant stand the chit chat when Im wanting to be served, I want to pay, get out and get home.

What 'nasty' experience put you off?
We have a newish Aldi close to us and I'm migrating more and more from our equally local Tesco Extra to Aldi
