Insane soaring wine prices in Watirose

I wonder if the age of the store reflects peoples' opinions.
Our Aldi only opened late 2017.
I do prefer our local Aldi to the nearest Lidl (which has been open a lot of years) - not particularly for the food but Aldi seems better laid out and less crowded (with 'stuff, not customers).
We used to shop at Aldi quite a few years ago (possibly 10 years) but compared to our usual supermarket (Sainsburys at the time), we found it disorganised, scruffy and lacking in choice.
Would be interested to know if the posters who don't like the Aldi/Lidl shopping experience have been lately or quite a long time in the past.
I'd also be interested to know if they live in central-ish London. I can barely force myself into the Aldis and Lidls in London (and almost never do because they are nowhere near where I live) but they ones I've been to in Yorkshire and the midlands are a totally different experience. The aisles are wide, you don't have to basically climb over people to walk round and the general atomosphere is not frustrated and angry. They are also much bigger so the range is far better and they seem to run out of stuff less often.Mortgage at 30: £204,750 (08/2020)
Current mortgage: £145,448 (11/2024)
Goal: £145,000 by 02/2025
End goal: Mortgage free asap!0 -

Majestic wines allow you to try before you buy and pay will for your crossing over.

My local Aldi is in Loughton, just outside of London. It's fine, certainly no different to any other supermarket. Before this I went to the Lidl in Tottenham a few times and in all honesty it was horrendous. I would imagine the quality would depend on the local clientele.0 -
The Lidl in my local town is not that good. It has very little choice of anything and I find their fresh fruit and veg doesn't keep for very long but it does have a very nice bakery so worth a visit for that alone. I usually only shop for top up bits in Lidl.
I do find it frustrating in that I have to queue for ages behind people with trolley loads when I just have a few basket items so I wish they did basket only or self service tills because the queues put me off going in there.
I did visit an Aldi a while back and quite liked it but I don't have one that close to me so what I would spend in petrol getting to my nearest one is not worth it in the long run.Debt 30k in 2008.:o Cleared all my debt in 2013 and loving being debt free

I think you mean “first world problems”.
A third world problem is something completely different to the price of wine, e.g. a child sniper has poisoned your well.0 -
Another vote for Lidl, the snobbish attitude does you no credit. I am lucky in that my favorite Reds are cheap Sicilian varieties. For whites, not so good: I prefer Australian or NZ and they have rocketed in price everywhere. Roll on some good Trade Deals after Brexit!
I used to love Brown Brothers Oz wines, then this happened:

My fave was their Chenin Blanc, never found any other Chenin Blanc with the same great taste.I think this job really needs
a much bigger hammer.

That problem would be eliminated by drinking fluid from a sealed bottle. Perhaps wine?
The insane soaring cost is clearly preventing them. It's a serious problem.0
