We’d like to remind Forumites to please avoid political debate on the Forum.
This is to keep it a safe and useful space for MoneySaving discussions. Threads that are – or become – political in nature may be removed in line with the Forum’s rules. Thank you for your understanding.
PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING: Hello Forumites! In order to help keep the Forum a useful, safe and friendly place for our users, discussions around non-MoneySaving matters are not permitted per the Forum rules. While we understand that mentioning house prices may sometimes be relevant to a user's specific MoneySaving situation, we ask that you please avoid veering into broad, general debates about the market, the economy and politics, as these can unfortunately lead to abusive or hateful behaviour. Threads that are found to have derailed into wider discussions may be removed. Users who repeatedly disregard this may have their Forum account banned. Please also avoid posting personally identifiable information, including links to your own online property listing which may reveal your address. Thank you for your understanding.

Can we please stop the House Price crash threads?

The mods have already asked that all discussion of house price crash be confined to one specific thread, as outined here:
http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=577151
It becomes tedious for readers of the forum to hear the same old arguments trotted out by the vested interests of the HPC lot. Its the same old mantra they have been singing for 5+ years now.
While the HPC brigade initially respected this, they have now reverted to type, and are consistently either posting new HPC threads such as:
http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=598960
http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=594684
or are resurrecting old threads to circumvent the rules:
http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=5377
This is a waste of everyones time, and is really disrespectful to Martin and the mods.
At the very least these threads should be locked, and a warning issued to those that are violating the rules that they will be banned if they continue behaving in this manner

Agreed. And also the 'Where are interest rates headed' threads. We all know the BofE will cut soon to one (1) per cent because CPI really is 1.8 per cent, and falling:rotfl:BLOODBATH IN THE EVENING THEN? OR PERHAPS THE AFTERNOON? OR THE MORNING? OH, FORGET THIS MALARKEY!

Er nollag haven't you just created a house price crash thread yourself here?
Probably best to PM the mods if you don't like what's going on (and here I am perpetuating the problem myself...slaps wrist).
Frankly I'm bored by the "Race to be in before..." threads but others clearly love them so I simply avoid rather than get fed up.0 -
House price crash threads are banned.
The discussion of news that effects house prices is not.0 -

The discussion of news that effects house prices is not.
Exactly and thats the difference. There hasn't been a house price crash thread recently. However, Nationwide suggesting that house price growth will be 0% in 2008 is big news and should be discussed in a forum dedicated to house prices.
Also the sheer fact that more people want to discuss this means that sentiment is definately changing.
(I do agree though that the second post you link to is breaking the rules and could have gone in the main thread)0 -

The word "crash" only appears once in that thread. In #38 by IveSeenTheLight. He's hardly a harbinger of doom now, is he?nollag2006 wrote: »
And the only use of the word "crash" in this thread is posted by you.

I'm a user of these forums and I don't have any problem with threads that discuss the potential for house prices to crash. Obviously I am not alone. Surely the forums are here to cover topics that people find interesting. Those that aren't interesting fall to the bottom. At the very least these threads should be locked, and a warning issued to those that are violating the rules that they will be banned if they continue behaving in this mannerHappy chappy0

If people want to discuss house prices surely this is the place to do it. Banning the mention of an HPC isn't going to stop it from happening. And this is coming from someone who is just about to complete on a house.0

Looks like the OP has a problem with people talking about price falls. There is a dedicated house price crash discussion thread, where you can wheel out the same arguments you have all been peddling for years. I suggest you use that, and leave the rest of us in this forum in peace.Happy chappy0
