Can Matt Emulsion be painted over with Gloss ?

Hello
I would like to know if Matt Emulsion can be painted over with Gloss paint ?

The Matt emulsion i have is white which has been painted 5 years ago
Now, i want to use a combination of white gloss on one wall, green gloss on another wall and light-blue on another wall.

Basically, I have white matt emulsion on my concrete walls at the moment, can i just paint it over with gloss paint ?

You can, but gloss isn't for walls, it'll look absolutely hideous.

Even "Silk" paint can be a crime against humanity in the wrong light ! Horrible stuff.

As for a room in full blown gloss........ the mind boggles.

You mean paint silk (gloss) with matt paint. Yes you can but the silk emulsion needs to be lightly sanded to take the shiny finish off and for the new paint to have a key

Hi. It can be painted over with gloss paint. Is this inside your home? Its just with you saying concrete walls. If it is concrete I would keep to emulsion paint or masonry paint.

You can have paints mixed at the DIY. Homebase have the Dulux Matchmaker and B&Q have one by Valspar.

I really would not recommend you use gloss paint.

I want to paint with gloss because its easy to clean.

If i clean the matt emulsion with water the paint comes off.
I know gloss easy to clean and the paint wont come off.
  • What would be the best type of paint that i can wipe clean with a damp sponge and the paint wont come off to paint on my concrete living room walls ?

Any good emulsion will be wipeable. Most makes do kitchen paint which is scrubbable.

Gloss on walls is so 1950s.
Tall, dark & handsome. Well two out of three ain't bad.
