On 27th June I received an email from Cahoot telling me my application had been successful and documents would be on there way.
Despite two phone calls and two emails to them,so far I`ve received nothing.
Anyone else in the same boat?

Royal Mail made some changes a while ago (sorry can't find a link).
They have withdrawn 2nd deliveries and only do one a day now. So I don't think there is any such thing as the "morning" post anymore.
I can't find any details but they should have sent you a letter about it.

I agree, a deterioration in service.

I realise some of you value your privacy and that's fine, but can someone please tell me the acutal harm that might come to me through giving them my personal information.

    Thanks

they could use your details for marketing purposes, such as sending junk mail/phone calls, sell your details on to other companys who would do the same etc,

I am pretty sure I ticked the box that said I didn't want then to pass my details onto other companies.
(I will double check their privacy policy and get back to you).
I am registered with MPS and TPS as well.

    Just checked and

"cahoot does not sell, rent or trade your personal information to others"

I have had an account with Cahoot before and I did not get loads of calls or mail, so I belive they are reputable in this respect.

I think I have asked this question twice now and I have not been able to get any serious reasons as to why there is actual harm done by giving your details to a company such as Cahoot (although I accept that some of you want to retain your privacy).
Personally I couldn't care less who knows how much I earn UNLESS it can do me some harm which we have so far failed to establish convincingly.

ok then I'll bite, sounds like you are dying to tell us all, do tell ;)

asking how much you earn is not the only question they ask, they ask other personal info as well, and as with any website you enter personal details in, the risk is there for hackers to get into the site, or a rogue employee who could use your info for nefarious means, im sure that kind of info could be used for generating fake id's, bank accounts etc etc

im not saying the probabilty of something like this happening is high, just another risk you take when you sign up for these things.

    Ah...

Ok, thanks for your very sensible answer.
I understand now that there could be some risks involved.

I am not going to give out my salary on-line.
It's not that I have any privacy reasons not too, but as you say it's possible for people to put information together (from profiles for example) and then cause some problems.

I can also see how it would be fairly easy to get someones address and burgle their house or use their details (especially if they promote their own website etc.).

Thanks for the info, it was exactly the kind of answer I was looking.

I find that one way to protect yourself is to check your bank accounts/credit card regularly.
I usually check mine everday, so not much would get past me.
That might sound excessive, but I reckon that you should at least check them when you get your statement.
