I am prone to migraines in bright light and high temperatures so I am indoors today. I have to go out tomorrow regardless of temperatures as I am due to meet a friend at a gallery (looking forward to that). Drudge jobs done. It is nice to dry clothes outside. :)

My brain keep panicking about finances. It is all worked out and as long as I keep to the plan it doesn’t need looking at until 2020 but my brain keeps panicking. I check the figures and my brain sighs in relief. Annoying!

I had a meet with a friend yesterday and told her the story of the drunk electrician. She has an electrician working on her mother’s house. She is going to pass him on to me. :T I will chase this when I am back from my hols. This is great as I have to get the electrics in the bathroom sorted before the bathroom can go in.

Lots more drudge to do so off to get it done.

Wishing you all a lovely BH for UK people :)

Welcome to the week to everyone else :)

I would love to be sorted until 2020. So well done, and your brain will stop playing tricks soon enough. That said, to an extent you have put all your eggs in one basket, and I think that's fine so long as you watch the basket

At the moment I don't feel sorted until the end of the month - but that's just my brain being over-analytical
I think I saw you in an ice cream parlour
Drinking milk shakes, cold and long
Smiling and waving and looking so fine

Thanks Beanie. I hope the electrician works out too. The Scottish holiday is a retreat but will be working, albeit creatively. The real holiday happens before then.I haven't had a proper holiday in 4 years so excited, but iIt's all feeling a little surreal at the moment.

Thanks Mark88man. I guess it depends what you mean by 'sorted.' For me it means I have the means to pay my bills and outgoings until 2020. Eggs in one basket? Anyone with a sole employer also has their eggs in one basket. I am just changing the basket. But yes, I will keep watching my basket just like everyone else on these forums should.

Hope the new electrician works out better.

I find if I obsess on finances - I behave better. I can admit though that the anxiety comes down when I see the plan and the debt figures going downwards steadily. I've literally mapped out a monthly budget through to the end of 2020 so it takes account of things like winter and summer cost differences for gas an electric, snowball debts changing, DS costs reducing, DD costs potentially increasing, insurances, road tax etc. That has helped me be calmer. I mapped out all the DR steps through to 2037 when I reach state pension age so that I have a plan for life post debt.... It's keeping me on track so far. You have to find what works for you.

I once read that you should always know where you are upto within your bank account to within £10 for the rest of your life. Not quite there yet - although I have pretty much given every £ a job and automated much of it.

So obsessing about £ is not bad - as long as you remember to focus on your increasing net worth and life post debt as part of it.

Thanks SH I am also a planner. I guess it always comes back to balance for me...

    Using money well
I had my eye on a small side table at MnS. I need one as I am using my bedside cabinet and that needs returning to the bedroom to keep my bedroom clutter down. Anyway the lovely one in MnS was £200, a price I can’t justify. It went on ex display for a 50% reduction. I got chatting with a member of staff who told me it would go down to 70% eventually. I stalked it all the time hoping no one else bought it. Yesterday I got it for £59.70. It looks great and I am very pleased.

    ...and not so well
Yesterday I had a ‘free’ trip to an exhibition as a friend is a member. However, once I factored in food, drink and fares I spent £42. A treat is a good thing but I’m terrible for people pleasing and drinking alcohol and eating when I don’t really want to. Must stop being a wuss on this and start being assertive on what I spend my money on.

So today I was due to go into the office today but that would have been at least £15. Probably more like £20 as I didn’t have a lunch packed. I stayed home instead to make up for the over-spend yesterday.

My last full day at work. The end is coming. Mixed feelings...

I hope you all had a good day :)

  • Yeah, hope everything works out well for you DIA
Different times now . I wonder how many people actually do stay in a great job for 20+ years these days and get a gold watch etc.
I think those days are gone for most .
Life is one big wind up these days .
Anyway enjoy your final day and rest of week ..:)
