Sorry to hear about the washing machine DIA. When I left my last place , I was broke and my washer dryer was on its last legs. Desperate times back then .
How are you getting on with the electrician ?
In one of my last places, I got a steamer from Argos and a scraper to get rid of wallpaper . Wasn't too much of a problem . Horses for courses as to what way you want to do it .
I didn't think your gym plans were doomed to failure , but I think it was the very early starts and lack of induction which seemed a bit puzzling . Hats off for giving it a go though . Still , it seems that you should get your new life sorted first and you'll know what you want to do, and when .0 -
On the washing machine - have you tried cleaning out the filter? That's what's usually wrong with mine.
I agree with staying on the board - or the MFW board - when I've left I deteriorated financially generally. It's a good support system. I've even met up with a couple of mse people in real life.Achieve FIRE/Mortgage Neutrality in 2030

I have a paper stripper so I am going to strip the walls myself. Then I will review...;)
I think you are right, when I am in the new life I will know what I want to do and when to do it. You are more chilled out than me. Wish I was a bit more like that sometimes...
No electrician as the last one who came to quote had alcohol issues so that search continues...savingholmes wrote: »On the washing machine - have you tried cleaning out the filter? That's what's usually wrong with mine.

I agree it is a good support systemIf you have built castles in the air, your work should not be lost; that is where they should be. Now put the foundations under them

I think you are right. Also, for me anyway, there is always a chance that our current 'feast' income could quite easily turn back to 'famine' overnight so I need the discipline of the diary to make sure I keep getting the best value for what we do spend, and that the emergency fund keeps on building.
I hate work outings, always refuse them. I never voluntarily give an excuse either, a simple thanks but no usually works. It seems particularly daft at your place given what is happening. My mortgage free diary: https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/6498069/whoops-here-comes-the-cheese

Just to add DIA, I'm not more chilled out than you .:) My first diary explains how all over the place I was when I was in a similar situation to yourself :rotfl:If anything , you're handling everything really well , getting things done and pushing forward .
Hope you find the right electrician .
Regarding the washing machine , have you tried a kind of reboot ..something like having your fingers on the on switch and others while turning it on and off from the wall socket ? It probably won't work, but washing machines are like mini computers these days ..
Probably best not to use a hammer just yet0 -

The week after next is D day and I’d be lying if I did not say I am approaching the date with trepidation.
Breathe.
I keep panicking and looking for jobs despite the plan being to carve out a new life where I earn an income from my creative skillset. If I don’t do it now, when will I?
I have just got a letter stating I will get my leave back as pay. It has been hard not taking any holiday since April but I am pleased I did this now.
It is my day off and I planned to meet a friend to go to a gallery but I did not go. I need the day to catch up with myself as I have a busy Friday and Saturday.
I did my Ald1 shop. Trying their coffee for £1.15 Sounds stupidly cheap but giving it a go…
I decided to treat myself to some face oil that I have enjoyed using in the past. Been thinking about it for months. I was looking in TK for a frying pan (got one) and browsed the skincare. There was the exact face oil I wanted for less than a third of the original price and there was just that one there!
The house is a bad mess again. It happens so quickly. Very low motivation, so the plan is to do 20 minute bursts. If I do this 6 times I will have managed 2 hours of cleaning/organising/decluttering.
Off to do the first 20 minute burst…If you have built castles in the air, your work should not be lost; that is where they should be. Now put the foundations under them

The creative path is what I was planning when I was made redundant DIA but DH got sick so I went and got a job. I'll always regret not being able to go for it.
You're mortgage and debt free so if there ever was a time for you it's must be now. I understand it's scary but if you didn't try I think you would regret it.
You can do it DIA and if you go for it and it turns out it's not for you, well, then you can do something else. Just remember to enjoy whatever you do.1 debt v's 100 days chapter 34: T3sco bank CC £250/£525.24 47.59%

Hope the new window quotes won't be too much of a pane . (Sorry:D)
It'll be a bit weird in a couple of weeks when you've left that place.
I would imagine that your emotions will be all over the place at first .
There will probably be some sort of weight lifted from your shoulders as you have left what sounds like a low morale situation , which is draining in itself . As you say though,.. breathe .
Maybe once you get your home totally sorted , you may find your new direction workwise while you are recharging the batteries .
Good result on the holiday pay . When I left that awful place , I was holding onto as many days as I could throughout the year , which paid off also .0
