I have just tried to post but after 15 mins typing I pressed submit and it wouldn't do it and all my hard work disappeared!!!!
Here goes again.
Background: Comet Time Card opened around 1995/96
balance paid monthly until Oct 1998 when entered into an agreement with DMC ( Eurodebt I think) we paid them their fee and were with them for 2 yrs then we continued paying on our own.
At some point the debt to Time Retail was forgotten about and it was several yrs before I had a letter from Robinson Way & Co asking for money.
I have been paying them for yrs now and still owe £1408.20
I offered to settle the account for £560 but they refused saying Time Retail never take settlements.
I phoned them today to ask for statements to show how much I have paid in relation to the original balance which they said they cannot do I have to contact Time Retail for that - but they cannot give me a contact number for them as it is for their use only!!!
I cannot find a contact number for them and really want to get access to my account details as I firmly believe most of this outstanding balance is inflated interest.
I need to know how to contact Time Retail and what my rights are regarding finding out all the charges on my account dating back to when it was in arrears.
Any help would be really appreciated as this is really getting me down and I just cannot see a way out. ( paying off at £45 per mth so it is going to take the rest of my life to clear!!!)
Thanks xx

What do I say - this account dates back years, will they have all the information? Do you know if they keep records dating back to the late 1990's
Is there a template letter I can use as I am rubbish at letter writing.
thanks x0 -
Hi i have
Time etail Finance limite, Selectapost 17, Rotherham, S97 3BS
Customer helpline 087024008840 -
That address is different to the one above? which is best?
Is it better to send a recorded letter than to phone?
so many questions sorry x0 -
Hi why don't you give them a ring and explain the situation, they will also point you in the right direction.
I got my statement off time retail yesterday and that is the address and phone number
good luck

Hi Massey,
Was your statement accurate ie did it contain all relevant details like amount owed and interest charged or was it just a blanket amount.
Is yours a recent account or from a long time ago like mine.
Thanks x0 -
OK here is an update.
Just phoned the number given to me by Massey.
Spoke to a lovely lady who told me that they sold the debt on 30th Sept 2002 with an outstanding balance of £2651.20
They cannot give me any details as to how much of this is interest and how much is actual debt - but this means that what I have been told by Robinson Way is rubbish.
Where do I go from here and who do I go to.0 -
That does not surprise me at all.
You need to send Robinson Way a CCA letter, demanding a copy of the original CCA, a cop of the letter of assignement and a statement. If they fail to produce all three withing 12 +2 days, then they can no longer chase the debt, basically.
Good practice to do this with any DCA.If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing0 -
Just spoken again to Robinson Way who have told me they are acting on behalf of NCO Financial Services UK.
They bought the debt from Time Retail for £2408 (that is the debt amount I presume - not how much they paid for it!!!)
They say I have paid a total of £1090 since they took it on and I have an outstanding balance on the letter sent to me today of £1408.20
How do I go about doing what you have said RAS, I am really unsure about all these things and how they work.
I just don't want to get any deeper into debt.
Many thanks x0 -
Hello lillysmum,
If you have a read through this thread:
http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=573294
There are all the letters in there that you need to write. Please remember it is your legal right to ask for a Consumer Credit Agreement, so you know what has been agreed to, the interest rate, the payments, everything. Every debt collection agency should have a copy of the CCA and also a letter of assignment.
I believe also you have the right to know the information that you have requested as regards payments made etc., and although they do not have to accept offers, the seem to quite frequently do so.
I am sure that one of the more knowledgeable ones will be able to answer any other questions you have.
I am sure you will get this sorted quickly.
