Giving up/ Cutting Down Alcohol Thread Part 16

Thanks maman. The book is Love yourself sober. I have the mainly wine o’clock trigger whilst cooking the evening meal. I then have the no stop button. I am an all or nothing drinker. I try to make rules so no daytime drinking. If I can get past dinner am then fine. Have already cooked tonight’s meal.I am finding lockdown very stressful. Am trying to study for furthering my career quals, but fear that I will be one of the over 55’s thrown on the scrapheap come the Autumn. Family business is struggling and things could be looking bleak. I sometimes wish I had stayed in the public sector and would now be retiring on a lovely pension like some of my friends. But I couldn’t work the shifts with my kids little and OH working long hours. All advice/tips are useful to know then we can decide what works for us. Do you know what your triggers are? What's different about AF days and others? Do you just change your mind when it gets to wine o'clock? Is it hard to be AF around others drinking? I'm just curious (aka nosey😉). I've got a mindset that I won't drink midweek but it does mean that somethines I think I drink at weekends just because I can. 🤔 I also know that it's not having too many empty calories that best motivates me. Thanks for the feedback arsenal. 😊 I really can empathise with you. I used to be straight in the door, open wine and start cooking. I think I prefer those drinks to later in the evening. I'm also an 'all or nothing' drinker. I'd rather have nothing than be limited to a glass. My DH drinks about the same quantity as me but he has a couple of tiny glasses each evening but I prefer to wait for the weekend. I find that if I can get to after dinner then I'm fine. Making a cup of tea helps but I used to almost literally tell myself that I wasn't having a drink and I'd be pleased with myself when I achieved an AF night. Plodding on is the best thing. You can't undo the drinking nights but every day is a fresh chance. 😊
Well done on the further study. It's tough out there. ☹️4 -

Well done Cathybird.I'm declaring early again for Sunday to try and encourage me tonight, 12/18. It will seem odd to have roast dinner with water but, as usual, I will be squeezing in at the end to achieve target!5
