Middle East Airlines

Hi All,
This incident happened in Sep 2014 (16/09/2014). I was flying to UK in Etihad Airlines. I have boarded from India and it got delayed due to rain for 4 hours. So I missed my connecting flight and the airlines re-arranged a different flight from Abu Dhabi where I have to wait for 8/9 hours for the next flight.
In Abu Dhabi the airline provided Food coupon (breakfast) and asked me to sit in the chairs inside the terminals. But some of them who got different passport they were given lounge and breakfast (double standard treatment depends upon their passport), even though both of them boarded the same economy class.
I did worry by their treatment and raised with their feedback team. They gave me 5000 miles and I rejected it right away and stopped using their airlines for the past 4 years.
Now the same airlines creating their own rule. As per the gov.uk website the visitor from India should not need a return ticket until and unless they return within the same 6 months. Otherwise they would not be given visitor visa next time. But they are asking passengers to buy a return ticket at the check-in counter and refused to check-in. Creating chaos to the passengers and scaring the elderly passengers that they will not allow them to check-in. When I asked them in their twitter feed they are not responding properly. Is it legal to tag their executives or send an email directly to them? How do I stop them doing this? Could someone please advise me on this?

Its up to them how they sell a product .
You have no rights to stop them . But you can complain to them .

Its probably that the company have fallen foul of UK immigration and its cost them .

    Hi JJ Egan,

Thanks for your reply. I am looking for a written statement or terms anywhere in their website or in the ticket. Am I being unreasonable?

What about the double standard treatment?

    Cheers

What proof do you have that these passengers did not hold Etihad Guest status that would qualify for lounge access even sitting in economy?
There are airlines that I do not fly with because I don't like how they operate/behave...your money, you can give it to whoever you choose.

Double standards from an airline based in a country that applies double standards to its own citizens depending on their gender? You surprise me...

I got a friend who came with me and we both travelled in the same economy class but we have different passports. He is not holding any guest status.

    Hi Aylesbury,

Double standard treatment in Abu Dhabi for an Indian national who boarded their flight. I was surprised by their behaviour. I have been travelling for a long time and been working in different countries. Never had faced these before.

Have I understood this correctly? You complained about getting only a breakfast voucher and a chair, whereas other passengers got breakfast and a comfier chair. You refused 5,000 air miles offered as an apology, and this was over four years ago. And now you don't like a new policy they've implemented?

Just fly with another airline if their policies and practices don't appeal to you.

    Hi Lincroft,

I have stopped using it from the last incident (2014). But I am hearing from my friends that they are keep on creating their own unwritten rules and regulations and creating chaos at check-in. I am trying to get this to their management.

Why? Let your friends deal with it if they are the airline's customers. And "hearing from your friends" about unwritten rules doesn't mean it's true. I would also be surprised if Etihad have created unwritten rules and regulations. I suspect it's all laid out in their terms and conditions and that the passengers haven't read them despite ticking the box to say they have.
