Road Tax Robbery

Using the DVLA website to apply for road tax, it's worked a treat in the past.
Wonderful bit of money making as I could not get my road tax for today paid on eleven tries last evening, but today, road tax has increased by £10, and it was accepted straight away, must have made millions.
Blatant money making.

Check if you are lucky enough to live in a marginal constituency, if so use theyworkforyou to complain to your MP (they listen if their local majority is marginal). If you're in a safe seat, rue the design of our voting system and get your yellow vest out.
  • It's irrelevant when you applied.

If the tax has increased for the 12 months from 1st April then it would have charged you that anyway. You can't get it cheaper by applying early :)

It was announced in October's budget that it'd be going up on 1st April by inflation rounded up or down to the nearest fiver - I don't think there's any over 4%. For that to be as much as a tenner, you must be in one of the higher VED bands, I-K, or pre-01 1550cc+.

I taxed one yesterday afternoon - took about ten seconds, no problem at all, starting today at the old price.

I'm obviously wrong then (before anyone else flames me)

A reminder to me not to leave things until the last minute, I'm always conscious of an IT failure on tax return deadlines but not so much on other things.

I had to SORN my temporary vehicle so yes, I was leaving things until the last knockings, but each attempt was accompanied by a quote for £290, each one. Then this morning, yes, £300 - I feel hard done by.

So you feel "hard done-by" over a <3.5% increase that was announced six months ago...

BTW, the one I did yesterday was coming off SORN, too.

Around £384,000,000 extra revenue if VED increased by £10 for every vehicle on the road (which would include zero VED vehicles) according to RAC website at the end of September 2018.......

    BUT

Around 46 billion litres of fuel is bought in the UK each year, that's 126 million litres a day. If the price of fuel goes up by 10p on 1st January and doesn't move all year then that would be an additional £12,600,000 PER DAY, that's £4,599,000,000 for the year.

UK Government are not the REAL crocks.

Cant understand why people bang on about VED, I lost 15 days worth because it doesn't transfer to the new owner or I bought it on 3rd of the month. 12,000 miles a year (average) divide that by the amount you have been "ripped" off....£10 was it....£0.00083 per mile....or £0.83 per month.

    REALLY?

    Yup, sure do.

Multiply that with all those who don't moan like me, and I suspect that is a lot of cash to the coffers.

"Inflation" is a hard concept, is it?
