I've stopped calling it "comfort" eating because it doesn't comfort me, it makes me fat and miserable. I refer to it as emotional eating now and somehow that gives me a bit of a better handle on it - like I can deal with my emotions properly or I can eat them and make myself really miserable instead of just moderately miserable/fed up/whatever.

You're right Cranky there's no comfort in it, I think I'll try you'll way of thinking.

Today is always the busiest day of the month at work so I'm always stressed and ratty by the time I finally get out of the office especially as this month my senior manager 'helped' which increased my workload and my stress levels, usually I come home and hit the cupboards but I've resisted tonight other than a small Gin and slimline tonic

I'm meeting a friend tomorrow and we usually wander between eateries catching up, it's been a while since we met so a small glass of wine may happen as well :). She's one of those lucky people who has a off button and stops eating when full so I shouldn't go too far off diet, if her husband picks her up he treats us to tea and we usually share a fruit tart

    B - porridge and fruit
L - I was too disorganised last night to plan lunch today so I took in some soft blue cheese, crackers and an apple, followed by stewed rhubarb and strawberries
D - HM salmon fish cakes using LO mash and runner beans
    S - grapes and small G&T

I can identify with the term ‘emotional eating’ much more than ‘comfort eating’. It immediately suggests it’s something I need to deal with and not ‘aw go on then It’ll do me good ‘.As well as a wheat allergy I physically react to stress and the symptoms are pretty similar .I became quite stressed on Thursday over a situation I thought I had handled well but obviously it had taken its toll and I ended up with IBS symptoms for the evening . Emotions affect our bodies hugely ,it’s good to get that feel good factor when all goes well but not good when things go badly and we end up in physical or emotional pain. To identify emotional eating and understand it should help us to deal with it better. So thank you Cranky .

I feel strong today so no emotional eating so far ! Hope we can all keep strong over the weekend .I have bought some french fries and a Freddie frog for myself and OH for tonight’s treat , they will taste so much nicer tonight if I stay on plan today .

    Good afternoon all,

This challenge is turning out to be so much more than just a challenge isn't it? We may not be able to solve each other's problems but it's good to know that we're not in this on our own. I can't remember who else said that they weigh themselves every day...I do this too. The signs are promising this week as long as I hold firm over the weekend. I'm not touching alcohol this week or next either because next weekend the House Troll and I are off to stay with my best friend from Friday to Sunday. I've packed a bottle of Southern Comfort for him and he's bought gin for me. Sobriety is not going to be high on the list of priorities methinks!

Brambling year end is awful I know! My friend who I'm visiting next weekend has had a horrendous two weeks with rogue invoices popping up all over the place....I hope you enjoy your day out today. The walking between places will cancel out the wine I reckon :D

Mrs Lottie if you want to make your Freddo frog go further, buy some strawberries, melt the Freddo in a ramekin in the microwave (heat it in 20 second bursts so you do't overdo it) then dip the strawberries in the melted chocolate. It lasts so much longer that way and the strawberries are good for you

I keep forgetting to put my meals on here (they're not that interesting) but here's yesterday's :-

b - couscous with fruit and yogurt
    l - chicken salad
d - pork scnitzel with coleslaw then sugar free jelly
snacks - apple, bag of quavers from multi pack

Take care all of you :)

I have a loss of 1lb this week.

I'm not sure I deserve even that, I've eaten more than I normally would when trying to lose weight. After living on my own for a couple of years, my son has moved back in. So there are foods I wouldn't normally buy back in the house. I know I don't have to eat them, but oh goodness it's tempting. It's so much easier when the food isn't in the house!

If you could live one day of your life over again, which day would you choose?

    Hi Everyone,

I've been working out how long I have till DD's wedding in September and its 25 weeks today. I weighed 10st 4lb this morning and I'd like to get to 8st 12 (I'm only 5ft nothing on a good day). That's 20lb so I need to lose less than one pound a week which should be easily achievable. I know I like my low carb way of eating so am going to continue that but also know I need to cut out some of the cream I've been putting in my coffee. After all, even if I have managed to become a fat burner rather than a carb burner I need to be burning my own fat rather than the fat I'm consuming. So my target for this week is to cut down on cream in my coffees. I've just been out for coffee with my Mother so have had my ration for today so any more drinks will have to be either low calorie squash, lemon and ginger tea or water. It's not too bad as I shall be at work all evening and I usually drink squash then anyway.

Our local open air swimming pool opened this morning so I had a wonderful 30 minute swim. The sun was shining, the sky was blue and the pool blissfully warm so it was lovely. I've also walked up to feed the cats for DS and will walk up again before work. I've already achieved my step target for the day anyhow as I also did another Week Four Couch to 5K run before lunch.

Lunch: Egg and homemade chips (about six) with mushrooms
Dinner: Smoked salmon and cream cheese with avocado, spinach leaves, tomato and cucumber
Treats: A Babybel cheese if I feel the need to snack at work.

My homemade chips are done in the airfryer. I cook potatoes in their jackets and let them go cold then cut into chunky chips, drizzle with olive oil and air fry. So if I am going to eat chips they are as healthy as I can make them. The cooling is supposed to develop the resistant starch and cut the carbohydrate content, the skins are left on and the air frying is better than deep frying or oven chips made with processed ingredients and cheap oils. That's my reasoning anyway.

Right, off to make a squash and get my household planner up to date. It feels strange not having DGD all day. Enjoy your weekend everyone.

    Hi all,
Thank you, Cranky, for the new thread and all the work you put in!

I'm going to start again as of today - I've put 3lb on since the end of the last challenge - but I'm still on my jollies so not fussed about losing this week. So, starting this challenge at 14st 1lb, I would love to be under 13st by the end of June, which means my goal is 16lb. I think I can do that, it's less than 1.5 lb a week! Weigh day will be Friday again.

I think I've had a change of mindset about the emotional eating and bingeing. I am very much a 'comfort' eater and I binge, food and/or alcohol, as soon as I feel I've lost control. I think that being kinder to myself has helped - the self loathing is pretty destructive - and treating myself in non-food ways is good. I expect there's more to it than that and I'm not *cured* by any means (1 biscuit magically turned into 3 last night - naughty secret eating before bed ) but feeling better than I have for ages.

I'll try to post more, I'm a bit slack! :o

    Anyway, good luck, losers! :rotfl::rotfl:

    Another quiet Sunday on here!

I've had an enjoyable day today. I played tennis this morning and then Mum came for lunch as is usual. However, as I didn't have Sunday dinner for the family to sort we nipped over to the city and did a bit of shopping. I ordered myself a cheap pair of prescription sunglasses to wear at the swimming pool. I also looked at a few dresses to give me ideas for what to wear for DD's wedding, though I shall wait till much nearer the time so I can hopefully drop a couple of sizes.

DH and I did think we might go and see 'The Keeper' tonight but decided to stay in and watch Line of Duty instead. That way I won't be tempted by a Magnum!!

Lunch: Poached eggs on a bed of spinach with a slice of ham and Hollandaise sauce, with avocado and cherry tomato.
Dinner: 2 chicken drumsticks, petit pois, red pepper and a third of a small jacket potato with butter. Babybel cheese
Treats: Another Babybel cheese. (I bought these for DGD's packed lunches but she decided she didn't want them so they've been hanging around for me to finish).

Hope the quiet day means you are all having a great weekend.

Since Jan 2019 I have lost 20lbs, dropped a jean size to 14, size 16 jeans kept falling down much to OH's amusement, !!

I seem to currently be stuck loosing weight, I am not putting any on but equally I am not loosing any either, Monday is my weigh in day.

I have a shopping list of banned items :) so far all is good. :T

I am doing at least 10K step per day, I'm not sure this is enough, but I am toning up, the flabby bits :o seem to be going.

Anyway enough of me, I look forward to reading the going ons, and for you all to keep me on track! :D

Rose Wood I too am 5ft and dream of being in the 8 - 9 stone range like I was in my 20s/early 30s (I’m currently 11st). I’m wondering if it’s achievable as I age though because traditional height weight charts always have the weight going up in age groups and I’m currently 45 years old?
