I have contacted CAB and they said that there is nothing we can do, what we need to do is plead with the line rental companies to help us. I have rung watchdog and if everyone does the same they can help us, by persuading phone companies to give a bit of Christmas spirit and help us. The number for watchdog is020 8535 1000.

Lets group together and hope that we can reduce our loss

Unfortunately the number of customers that were able to comply with the terms and conditions and hence became eligible for the cash-back payments exceeded the company’s expectations. The company is therefore no longer in a position to meet its ongoing liabilities to those customers.

    Isn't that bordering on fraud?

I shall wheel out my age-old plan of holding 3 responsible for the actions of their agent.
  • has anyone had any success with reducing their contracts yet?

No joy with 3. Sooo sorry but "unable to help". Gonna try and stitch them on retention. Get new phone, not mention reduction in rental so they think they have got a result and cancel asap. Flog phone. Contract ends in Feb so not too bad.

Interested in anybody elses response from 3.
  • I thought if you took an upgrade on your contract then cancelled immediately you have to return your new handset to them? Correct me if I'm wrong but they do say the handset remains their property until the minimum contract length is up.

When you accept a retention deal, you enter a new minimum period contract.

So in your scenario, although you could cancel, they would hit you with a termination fee equal to the 12 or 18 months rental of your new contract.

I also got told no reduction till you have gone 9 months. Bit of a waste of time really when I only have a 12 month contract

So what exactly were the company's expectations, in terms of percent out of 100? I wonder if the administrators would give out this information?

I also wonder whether or not the police would consider an unreasonably low expectation, e.g. 20%, to be fraud? Particularly as Messers Slater and co had previous experience of the mobile phone market, ie, you would expect them to have a pretty good idea of the percentage that would be paid out.
