Oh in that case what I've read is incorrect in the post I found yesterday as that gave me the impression that's what they could do.
Virgin will have recorded a default against your account with Experian. If you clear the outstanding debt and any additional charges incurred, this will be changed to "satisfied" to show that you have cleared the debt. However any defaults recorded in the intervening months still be visible for 6 years.
Experian will remove genuine errors in their file such as mistakes or someone else's debt accidentally appearing on your file, however they are under no obligation to remove a genuine default that has been settled as it is an accurate record of what actually happened.• The rich buy assets.

Whether I contact virgin media?- Virgin Media - They are unlikely to back down as you were in breach of your contract
- Experian - They are unlikely to remove the default as it is factually correct
- OFCOM - This is your best chance as they are already investigating Virgins ETC clauses due to the number of complaints from consumers

I think that once you have settled the debt, Virgin will inform Experian that it is settled. I assume this does not happen immediately, but will take a bit of time to update. Your credit record will therefore be "better" for having settled the debt.0 -

Correct.
The default won't be removed at this stage, but will be 6 years from the date the default was registered0 -

This is subject to the company.
I called Experian and the first step is for me to contact Virgin.
It's not subject to the company - all defaults remain for 6 years unless there is a justifiable reason and good cause to remove it early.
Not honouring a contract is not a reason to have it removed early.0
