Anybody got a link or ever queried how I raise a dispute against my credit file using experian?>

Its a pointless excercise, you have to dispute incorrect entries with the company that placed the entry.

The cerdit reference agencies just act on information supplied to them by their clients.

If you want to try anyway, you do it from the CRA`s entry on your credit file, just click dispute, and follow the prompts.

Gotta love the people that run to Mr. Branson even though he has nothing to do with VM other than the name :rotfl:

It really is quite funny that people don't check if he still is involved with the firm and complain to him.

Same could be said about the forums, there are still users who think Martin Lewis still is involved with it yet he sold MoneySavingExpert, ok hes an executive chairman but how much say does he have regarding the forums now.

You do it via Experian directly.

But they will just contact the lender/provider for clarification.

Sorry have never done this before can you advise where on their site I do this please.

I'm hoping if I pay it early virgin will remove it - no harm in asking.

If they don;t and it stays on there then there really is no incentive for me to pay it is there?

It depends on whether you want lenders to view you more positively.

If not, then no, but I'm not sure why you're worrying about 'negative influencers' in that case.

I'm not worrying about it but it is stopping me from getting a credit card and I imagine a loan so I'd like it off. Got it?

Then why wouldn't you want to improve how lenders see you regardless of whether the default is removed?

All I want is to be able to get a loan/credit card. What's stopping me doing this is my debt with Virgin Media so I won't whatever it takes to get it removed so I then show to have good credit and can get on with my life.

I've read that Experian can contact the company and ask them to remove it if I pay it - this is what I want to do, but don't know how to do this.

If Virgin say no they ill then I'll pay but if they say no then what is my incentive to pay? To be honest this is just a side issue - my main goal is to go from poor credit rating to excellent and by me paying them and them removing it I can achieve this.

I don't know how many more times I can answer this.

Lenders like to see people who clear their debts, even if they've had a bump along the way.

This is rare for me, but I have to side with Virgin on this one.

When you sign a contract you are promising to pay for the duration of the term. If you voluntarily change your circumstances so that you can no longer receive their services, that is not their issue.

It is the same as if you took out a mobile phone contract and moves to an island with no signal. Or leased a car then move somewhere with no roads. The contract you signed and promise you made remains valid.

Morality issues aside, you made a promise and then failed to honour it. This has been accurately recorded on your credit file because this is EXACTLY the kind of behavior a credit file is there to warn potential lenders about.
