April 2019 Grocery Challenge

£32 vanished this morning on a pack of frozen chicken & various other items for an unanticipated family meal tonight; DS2 & his partner's kitchen is being fitted this evening & they've been advised it would be best if they - and the dog - were elsewhere. We were having a "leftovers" meal & there wouldn't be enough for 6, so I've gone & bought some bits to do a large curry & we'll have the leftovers tomorrow instead.
The rest of the chicken will do 2 or 3 other meals, and some of the rest was a general top-up, so I'm not in despair - yet!Angie - GC Aug25: £374.16/£550 : 2025 Fashion on the Ration Challenge: 26/68: (Money's just a substitute for time & talent...)0 -
Hello, I've just spent another £6.34 on mostly yellow sticker end stuff which should keep me going another couple of days.
£80 for the month is really making me concentrate!"A thousand candles can be lit from a single candle without shortening the life of that candle."

GC Spends since the beginning of month
Asda : - £76.47 (Week 1 April shop)
Asda refund : +£4.45 (missing items)
Iceland : - £55.18 (Month stock up of pop, seafood etc)
Morrisons : - £27.85 (Mother’s day cards and flowers - should have been more prepared and got these cheaper  )
Pets at home: - £42.99 (Petfood for the month)
Asda: - £58.79 (Week 2 April shop)
Total spent so far - £256.83

Out of the remaining balance I need to ideally save £40 for some further dog costs (vaccination tip ups)
So I am aiming for weekly shops to be circa £65 to stay on budget.2019 Totals: Savings: £929.53 / Mortgage OP - £746.32

I popped into Mr S last night to see if there was anything suitable for the yellow sticker diet.
Puddleglum, I just had to tell you how much I loved your expression “Yellow sticker diet”. It brought a smile to my face.
I’m currently plotting the big shop for the month. I’ll raid the farm shop on Saturday for fresh veg - after prepping dinner, our fresh veg is down to two spring onions and 3 regular ones - but, unless we go tonight (unlikely), the main shop will have to wait until Sunday, when my DH is free. (He’s got commitments for the next two days. I will be late-night taxi service picking him up from the station.)
That leaves me wondering what we’ll be having for dinner tomorrow and Saturday, since virtually every recipe I know starts “fry onion with garlic, add mushrooms...”. We’ve got bread and cheddar, so I think tomorrow night’s meal will be Bread and Cheese Pudding (a savoury version of Bread and Butter Pudding, with tuna and sweet corn added). Since I’ll have some fresh veg on Saturday, I may have to resort to cooking the Lidl salmon en croute which is languishing in my freezer. Hmmmm...

QUESTION I'm going to try making a "tofu quiche" using a recipe I found on facebook SW members page - it's literally a pack of siken tofu blended with 100ml veg stock, then you pour that over roasted veggies and bake - will I be able to freeze it after I have made it? I may make little ones for breakfasts next week you see!![/FONT]
The texture will be springier. It’ll still be healthy to eat. But they last 4 or 5 days in the fridge so not sure I’d bother freezing.2021 GC £1365.71/ £24000 -

Can I be put down for £80 please. Went out of the house for the first time yesterday in 8 days - it was a painful experience - walking sticks, which i can't balance on or hold my weight, and then a wheelchair. Had an mri - I have a 'very' slipped disc. Not sure if there are degrees of 'slipped', but that's what the prognosis was. My daughter has cooked me up some meals and bought me a load of stuff, she won't take any money for it, so no actual spends and she is gong to do a big cook up, so I have lots of 'proper' food. To be honest I have been living on 'pot noodle' type things - but really needed some home cooked stuffed. Anyway, hoping this month will be a low spend. Have a good w/e everyone.0 -
Little shop done in Aldi today - should last us for most of next week (I hope). We now have bread, milk, orange juice, sandwich meets, cheese, yogurt and veggies/salad/fruit. Can't see us needing anything else, and we have enough food in for dinners next week.

Need to have a good look through the spends diary and see what’s what for this month, have picked up a few bits here and there along with getting a Sainsbobs delivery yesterday. It’s the holidays here now so will be trying to keep to giant teens well fed.. I’ve told them not too much grazing, filling meals inc breakfast are to be had!"There's a little witch in all of us"🔮🪬🧿DEBT FREE 06/2018Mrs SD’s Decluttering 2025 ⭐️ 🥇🥇🥇0

We have spent £53 so far.
Veggie curry with jackfruit on a jacket potato for me tonight for dinner.
No idea what OH is having. Noodles or soup is my guess.
£53.00/£180
£127.00 left.I am a vegan woman. My OH is a lovely omni guy0 -
£70 spent between the market & a quick dash up to town today. We really shouldn't need anything else this week except perhaps carrots; there's plenty in the freezer & the cupboards. Let's see whether I can restrain myself...!Angie - GC Aug25: £374.16/£550 : 2025 Fashion on the Ration Challenge: 26/68: (Money's just a substitute for time & talent...)0
