I'd say a troll. I'm not sure I've ever driven on the M1.

How sad that you go searching through people's old posts. You must have a lot of spare time on your hands.

Yes, I have plenty of spare time at the moment. I'm sitting at my computer waiting for an e-mail to arrive and have nothing important to do.
What's really sad is that some people feel the need to go on public forums and post lies.
At least now, newbies who come on here will have no doubts as to how seriously your comments should be taken.

    I say a liar.

I drive into London a couple of times a week and often drive around Birmingham, up and down the M1, M6, M25 etc. But never got pulled.

There's a stretch of the M1 that drops to 50. There's no obvious roadworks and it's only for a short stretch (I suspect there's a problem with the central reservation). Every day I must be the only person who actually slows to 50 -

Not that you've been outed as a troll & liar, I think it's time for another new user name.

To be fair to the Op's other half, he could have been driving for 30 years and this is his first speeding offense, so doesn't necessarily make him a bad driver or someone in need of going on an awareness course.

They'd still benefit from a refresher/awareness course. Pretty much everyone could benefit.

I think you're right. Deastons is my fourth or fifth username, so another one won't hurt.

    Bye Deastons!

When you go on a speed awareness course, your details are only kept on record with the Police (to ensure they do not re-offer within 3 years if you speed again).

There is no way for insurance companies to find out whether you have been on a speed awareness course or not (unless they were to ask you and you answered truthfully).

Not saying you should lie to your insurer...but...:A

I(users partner) got flashed doing 3 miles over the 30 limit, As expected i got offered a course, or points and fine.

No one can tell you what to chose. You need to work out what works best for you.

You say the course is an hour+ away, You need to add fuel costs and time onto the total course time, Plus any potential parking costs. Straight away you are looking at well over 6 hours of your time you're investing into the course.

On the other hand you got a £100 fine to swallow plus 3 points, and the postage fee required to send your licence to DVLA. Thats the outlay up front. Then You may be punished by your current insurance company upon renewal(For me it was eSure, my quote shot up a fair bit. Got another quote elsewhere, Direct line for only £3 more than previous year quote. Phone up eSure but they didnt want to know, So left them)

My total costs for the 3MPH fault was likely to be around £110, 30 mins of my time dealing with paperwork.

My total cost for a course would exceeded the above £110 by so far, Not to mention many hours lost plus a days working holiday used up for the course.

The conclusion for both your partner and me is/was to take the fine, forget about it and move on. Regardless of which option just remember to keep your eyes peeled for cameras and watch your speed.

You were doing 33 in a 30 limit? Or 3 mph over the 34 mph guideline threshold?
  • I myself have been on two of these courses in the last few years ( Slow Learner😄) but i have never had to disclose this fact to my insurers, and that's been quite a few as i always change provider every year. I certainly would not recommend that you take the fine and points as you will have to pay more on your insurance for the next 3 to 5 years. The speed awareness course is sometimes boring but it is also educational and is a much cheaper option.
