Speeding : points and fine or course?

My insurance went up £200 after my points, I earn a bit more than that a day, but I'd be paying increased premiums for 5 (?) years. I'm also now only 3 more offenses from a ban. I'd have taken a course if offered.I also suspect that those who don't think they'll benefit from a course are the ones who most need to attend.
Nope. Got a vocational licence, have done defensive and economic driving courses, used to hold a MSA licence and I have a functioning brain and use that and the eyes that are connected to it along with a couple of million miles of experience to judge what is safe or not rather than a number on a pole. It is why the number of miles I've done accident and points free is into six figures despite the best efforts of car drivers who feel the need to get in front of my lorry at any cost. Much more reliable than abiding by a number on a pole as the fact the number of KSIs where inappropriate speed (below the limit but too fast for the road/conditions) is a factor being higher than the KSIs from speeding being a factor. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. Did you mean seven figures?
I'm on the road a lot with my work but I'm not a professional driver; I'm well into six figures without accident, incident or points too. So I guess you mean seven.
As for not obeying the 'number on a pole', I'm not arguing with what you say but how do you get round the fact that going faster the the numbers on the poles is more likely to get you caught? Or are the numbers to be obeyed where cameras exist, whether that speed is appropriate for the road conditions or not?0 -

If it were me, I'd definitely take the points and fine. Like your partner, I'm a steady and careful driver - I never speed and have never been done for speeding. If I were, it would be the first time in over 24yrs of driving, so the chances of me getting more than three points would be incredibly small.
I've never had points, so this is purely anecdotal, but my understanding is that 3 points makes no difference to insurance.
And all that travel and all that time wasted on a speed awareness course? No thanks. I'd much rather pay to not have to do it.0 -

Funnily enough, I was on the M1 just a couple of weeks ago (around J9) and was doing 77 when the gantry said 60. Got flashed but nothing's come through.
So are you a liar, a hypocrite or simply a troll?0 -

I'd say a troll. I'm not sure I've ever driven on the M1.
How sad that you go searching through people's old posts. You must have a lot of spare time on your hands.0 -
To be fair to the Op's other half, he could have been driving for 30 years and this is his first speeding offense, so doesn't necessarily make him a bad driver or someone in need of going on an awareness course. I've been driving 30 years and never had any points, but doesn't mean I don't speed or wouldn't benefit from an awareness course either. OP, your OH just needs to weigh up the pro's and con's for them. Everyone else's circumstances are irrelevant. If it was me, I'd probably take the points.0
