Ridiculously High gas usage on New Build House

Malc,
I was on half hour readings at the time. I'd called up about something (I forget what now) and the rep asked me for a recent reading. When I expressed surprise at her request, what with the smart meter and all, she told me she would initiate a remote read there and then. While we were waiting I asked about the half hourly reading and that was when she told me what I said in my earlier post.
Of course it's pretty academic now, since E.on still can't take any readings from my smart meter.
I know where she was coming from Raxiel. Although you had given us permission to take half hourly readings, we only do this when necessary. For instance, if we were looking to give you tailored advice about your energy usage.
On the other issue, we're planning to update many SMETS1 meters later this year so they can be managed in the same way as SMETS2. This will give us the ability to take readings automatically again. These upgrades are done remotely so need for a technician to visit.
Have a good weekend Raxiel.

i doubt very much that the property was initially "shipperless " unless the estate was a very small one by a local small builder.
. I have been reading large new build estates for years. All the arrangements for who will supply the estate, or part of the estate, are made well before the full construction of the property.Once they secure the contract every property is enrolled to that supplier.. Really big estates, say over 500 to 1800 could have two or three different builders and there can be 2 or 3 suppliers involved.. None of the properties will be shipperless
Eon are quite active in getting the contracts for new build estates by "doing a deal " with the builder. , along with BG and sometimes Scottish Power also wade in en masse claiming new territories.
There is a big advantage for a supplier to "pay off " a builder to grab the concession because 10 years later the major supplier for the estate will still be the initial supplier despite a percentage of occupiers switching around..Approx 60% stay with the same supplier from day 1
Sorry Malc I m not buying that "get out " in saying it was shipperless. I d say Eon messed up and they also could nt be bothered to get hold of a full inventory of the smart meters data when the first complaint was made..
If the big 6 can t be bothered, what chance have such suppliers like Eversmart got of actually taking notice of a smart meters readings it is constantly sending out ? . Zero ! Eversmart seem to be run by two blokes and a secretary, sorry administrator, in an office working part time.0 -
Is this a SMETS2 or SMETS1 meter, Guessing SMETS2.
But like...
I am reading your story and it says you lived there for 11 months, they didn't bill you because there was an error. Now they are billing you once things are sorted. Your mad because you think the things before the error should be free, or just because the meter reading seems odd?
I mean, to me this is what it sounds like, it sounds like the meter didn't have a operator or account assigned to it, so it was just storing those values, then on the first day it had someone attached to the account it wacked on all of the old usage.
It doesn't sound like it is the meter that has failed. It sounds like a mixture of you, your supplier, and your builder. Why not just be happy that you had nearly a year grace in not having to pay for your gas? If you used it you should pay for it. If you were not able to switch away due to the problems then I think you should try to get compensation, but to just say you thought it was free because they were unable to get a reading......0 -
I know how it works, having listened to many occupiers moving out telling me they have already submitted their closing readings because they are moving out next week..so " no need of you to read my meters "we have already done it ". nicking a week or two of usage is normal.
No one should be "nicking" a week or two of usage. If I was moving into a property and the start readings were two weeks worth of usage wrong then I would be really upset. I have helped a few people move and we would take photos of the readings on the day we exited the home, and where it existed, turn everything off at meter.0
