So what was the meter reading on the 6 Feb and the last one on the bill.
I take it you did not have a new meter fitted on 6 Feb?

How many times has the meter been read since you moved in and have you got meter readings or did you not bother?

You still haven't told us what the meter reading was on the day you moved in - did you actually read it yourself or rely on someone else.

I think you've missed the point Raxiel (and now others) have asked.

Did you actually check the meter yourself on the date that EON say they are billing you from (06/02/19) and confirm that the reading was 00000? Because if you've been there since April 2018, there's no way the meter was at 00000 6 weeks ago. It possibly wasn't even at 00000 when you first moved in.

It appears that while EON have said they will only bill you from Feb 2019, they are billing you from the 0 read, so effectively from the time you originally moved in back in 2018. So pretty much a full year of gas usage.

Gas meters usually are on either 99998, 99999, or 00000 when occupiers move in. There is a a little gas wasted on the initial purge .That is why they are set from new at 99998/99999.. Suppliers bill from 00000. I don`t think we can look to incorrect billing with the OPs usage.
Eon now fit Secure Liberty smart meters..The ones with the hard to see decimal point, but if its transmitting correct reading that can be eliminated

Hi all
New to the forum and was looking for some advice.

Recently moved into a morris homes new build (april 2018) and finally now my gas has been sorted with Eon. For the first 6 weeks of my gas usage i have been told i have used 5694 Kwh (510 cubic metres of gas). This works out as 135 Kwh a day for gas! My partner and i both work full time, so we have the heating on at a reasonable temp of 19 degrees for an hour in the morning and about 2 hours at night to keep the house warm and be comfortable. Apart from generic hot water usage such as showers etc before and after work and washing up the dishes, our hot water and heating usage is very low even for a winter month. Like i said we both work full time so for about 9/10 hours a day nobody is home so no heating on or no boiler on. (Other things to point out is that we never leave the heating on over night either, also one shower is an electric over the bath shower.)

What could possibly be making our usage so high? Faulty meter, faulty boiler, gas leak somewhere (however no smell of gas on the property). Some things to mention would be being a new build the energy rating for our home and boiler is very good. We have had problems with the central heating system after moving in and the builder had to come back and sort out crossed pipes in the system.

Any advice on what to do next? I have a complaint with Eon open now but they are still adamant i owe them all the money for the gas i have used, but i cannot understand psychically where this gas is being used.

Many Thanks

Tom

Robin 9 - We moved in april 2018 but no gas was charged from 2018 to current day for gas due to an error on the builders half regarding paperwork. No energy firm was supplying the gas and charging us for it however our gas was live as we could still use it.

We haven't been charged or billed for anything prior to 06/02/19 because Eon didn't supply the gas. Anything used during that period Eon have reassuringly said we will not be charged for.

Hello TomLew111 and welcome to the Forums.

What was the reason we’ve given for not charging from when you first became responsible for the property in April 18? Was your home originally what’s known as a shipperless gas site? These come about where there’s a connected gas meter that’s unregistered on the network and there’s no appointed supplier. They’re caused when the gas network isn’t updated with the right metering information often following a new build.

We’ve a New Connections team who look after these situations. They create a unique Meter Point Reference Number (MPRN) and set up an account. They also make sure the relevant National Database is updated with the right information.

If this was a shipperless site, billing would’ve started from when the MPRN was created and the account set up. Did this happen in February? If it did, what readings were used both in February and on the latest bill?

With shipperless sites, although there’s no account or supplier, gas can still be used and is registered on the meter. Whilst the meter would most probably have been at zero or thereabouts on installation in April 18, I doubt this would’ve been the case in February 19.

Sorry for all the questions Tom and for repeating what others have asked. Sorry, too, if I’m barking up the wrong tree here.

• Hi malc, thanks for your reply.

Just like to start by saying this is issue is currently live with a resolution manager, i was expecting a call back today from customer service but nothing yet. Im not sure about the conditions of the site before, this is something i would need to find out from the builder.

from what Eon have told me is that for some unknown reason Eon where not due to take the gas on until 06/02/19. Anything prior to this wasn't supplied by Eon, or infact any other supplier. it was quoted by a Eon customer service rep as just "being straight off the grid".

What i do know is a handover form was submitted on the day of move in with a gas reading of 00067 m3. My reading now is around 577m3, which gives us that 510m3 figure quoted above when you take back off the original reading.

What we believe has happened is that the meter was running all that time since move in to now, but instead of Eon taking a reading on 06/02 and taking that as my 'zero reading' they have used the handover form figure of 00067 m3. they have inputted a false meter reading for the start of billing date. the callback i was expecting today was for a reading on 06/02/19, my smart metre should of remotely provided this to eon.

my 6 week bill for gas is actually for near enough 11 months. its not right and needs to change so if you need any info off me to chase things your side thats fine i can provide that.

Thanks

As you are now being sorted by EON there's not much we can add, except that, with hindsight, you should have taken a reading on 06/02. Provided EON had the meter serial number on that date then you should be ok, otherwise you'll have to agree an estimated start reading between you.

Had you put a bit of effort in and been reading your meter you'd have a record of monthly readings which you could use as evidence of your consumption. If you've been using gas then it's pretty obvious that the meter would have been incrementing.

If you've not had a supplier sorted out in what way did yo expect your smart meters to be sending readings in.

He has a smart meter. Customers have a faith in the meters and expect the supplier to bill them correctly 100% of the time.To me , that is the most important aspect of smart meters , to end the guesswork of who s used what amount of energy. I have my suspicions that it is not how its actually working. Suppliers like to be bone idle if possible because that is the cheapest way to run their business . If they can t be bothered to access the read outs from the meters there is no point in them
Personally I would like to know if any supplier actually takes any notice of a half hourly/daily readings from smart meters ..BG have been issuing a friend of mine who went on their smart only tariff, got the meter fixed in , and since has received some incorrect wildly out estimates over the winter which has put her in debt but with only the occasional "we read your meter ".reading
I don t trust suppliers taking full notice of constant smart meter readings even if they are available.
I`ve had my suspicions that suppliers only get a reading from the DCC when they ask for one and would have to pay to get a rundown on usage. In other words its only the DCC who know exactly whats happening but they keep it to themselves unless a supplier requests it , with a small appropriate payment automatically deducted. Someone is paying Capita ?
..just my guess on why suppliers don`t appear to know what`s exactly happening
