That’s obviously not true though as it was regenerated Tuesday then 25 miles later the engine service light is displaying again today (Thursday)

Trouble is you have been using for 6 months without a re-gen. Maybe you will have to have it taken off and cleaned or renewed, then you can run it for 20 minutes once a week.

Coming on again after 25 miles doesn't sound right and if the OP is taking long drives at weekends then surely that should be enough to deal with the weekly commute.

Maybe asking/looking on a model specific forum may help to see if this is 'normal' or if others have had the same problem, somewhere like epaceforums.co.uk

I'm sorry I disagree with the replies here. Most people have no more understanding of their car than a white good like a fridge. If they buy a car they expect to be able to use it for mainly town driving and for it to still work.

If a manufacturer can't make a car that can do that, it is defective and it is the manufacturer that is incompetent.

The manufacturer has a duty in their sales and advertising to make it clear the car is only suitable for long distance drives at above urban speeds. If that hit sales, tough.

I dont think you can compare a car or a fridge...also it must be a well known fact that diesels are more suited to high mileage drivers, it has been that way for decades.

The purchaser also should have a duty to research what they are buying before deciding to buy. No idea why anyone would decide to buy a diesel with a daily commute of 4 miles each way and an annual mileage of 8,000 miles in 2019 or 1995. Only difference with modern cars is the EGR valves, DPFs and re-gen cycles to get the emissions down which are fussy. I take the point that many folk wouldn't know that the style of driving could cause damage or issues with modern cars.

The cheapest diesel E Pace is £25,000 on Autotrader, cheapest petrol one is £31,000 so I guess the OP decided on the cheapest one of the two models. If I was going to spend that amount of money on transport I would be doing my own research before visiting a dealer.

Hi, sorry the full story isn’t on here. It’s been in the dealership and regenerated 6 times, this will be the 7th time it has been regenerated within 2400 miles. Just doesn’t seem right to me.

I spent 34000 on the r dynamic diesel model that I brought.
Saying it’s been like the case for decades also doesn’t ring true as I had a diesel car in 2003 for 10 years, without the dpf obviously, but did less miles than I do now with no issues.

If its so obvious then why hasn’t the dealership informed me before purchasing. They were told of my annual and daily commute so they can’t complain now that I’m having issues as they would have known at the time.

The dealership are telling me that they have no information of any prefered driving style so that’s why they don’t inform customers.

I’d have paid the additional cost if I’d have been informed or knew. To say it’s common knowledge is fine in your eyes as you obviously know. I don’t, you don’t know what you don’t know.

I chose to visit the dealership 3 times rather than read up in the internet. Putting trust in what I was told by then ‘the experts’

So you've been to the dealer 6 times with this issue? I assume they have explained what you need to do to stop it from keep happening?

What are you doing differently now compared to what you originally were doing to try and stop the light coming on?

Are you getting the Amber light before the Red one comes on? If you are what are you doing about it? Are you driving for the right amount of time at the right speed to facilitate a DPF regeneration? And If you are, are you keeping going till the amber light goes green?

Have you checked the Adblue level?

As has been pointed out here modern DPF fitted diesels are only really suited to driving for longer journeys. Personally I do maybe 5,000 miles a year but I have a 2010 Volvo diesel and I keep track of the driving i do in it so as to make sure it gets a decent run on a motorway to clear it out. If I think it isn't getting the runs it needs I use the GF's car as its a petrol.

    Because it’s common knowledge.....

Did they warn you to only drive when all 4 wheels were attached to the car?

It’s not the regen light that’s displaying it’s the engine management light. The regen light has come on once, Amber. I regen’d It, it went off. Since then the engine management light displaying is what the issue is.

Yes they have informed how to drive, but after the last 2 regens the engine management has displayed again after 20-25 miles. Haven’t even had chance to do the miles.

So, potentially, I could buy the car from new, get stuck on the motorway for 20 miles, then the light comes on and have to turn round and take it straight back in? Surely never right.
