Its the salesmans job to sell you a car.
Its the buyers job to ensure the car is suitable for your needs.
Why does nobody take accountabiliy for their actions anymore?
Its not as if its a hidden secret that modern diesel engines need more miles to clean out the exhaust system.

You probably mis-bought rather than mis-sold.

As is often the case on here.

I have the same thing having a diesel car, but less mileage than I was doing when I bought it.

I simply make sure I do at least ten motorway miles per week. Okay, that's fairly easy here in Reading, but it's the only option.

A relative once had a mini that every now and then, once he had completed a journey would kick off some sort of cleaning cycle (I have no idea what it is called though)
He said the car would just be really loud when he got out for 5 minutes with all sorts of fans and noises coming from the engine area - his wife even called him once as she was worried that the car was broken as it 'wouldnt switch off' even though the key was out.

I am sure he said it was an automated cleaning cycle of some sort because the car didn't think he was doing enough miles to clean out things- (I think...) - im not sure if it was a DPF event though.

sorry to be vague but i wondered if it might help in seeking out a remedy - this might not even be related to the DPF filter - He didnt have to take it to a dealer, the car just did it and I only mention this just in case there is something on your car similar although I suppose the dealer would, presumably, have mentioned such a thing.

A car that runs without a key in the ignition. Sounds a 'little' dangerous !!
  • its not motorway that is the issue. It is the lack of engine heat to burn off the soot so claiming that only driving 6-8k a year means you were mis-sold is incorrect. Dont drive it like a petrol. Driving at high revs at low speed would be equivalent although you will lose any efficiency gains from having a diesel. You should have purchased a petrol for your type of use but they it is neither their responsibility nor liability.

It is generally common knowledge that diesels are long distance work horses and do not like short trips at low speed. It is odd that the DPF does not heat up and burn it off itself (like most cars).

Just sell it and take the hit, or buy something more suited to your driving style if you dont want to waste your time and a few pounds each month on diesel to re-gen your DPF......bad for the environment...really ? I Dont think any more trees or birds will get damaged for your extra mileage.

25 miles completed since last regeneration - service light on again. ‘Working as per the manufacturers expectations’ / Miss brought - I doubt it / plenty being miss sold which at time was never questioned. Thanks for the replies though

And thanks for listening to those with experience :rotfl:

You've bought a great car at a lower price than the petrol equivalent but it comes with some compromises. 20mins of driving it like you stole it each week should solve the issue (and let you enjoy the handling/performance you've paid a large sum for but don't use)

That’s obviously not true though as it was regenerated Tuesday then 25 miles later the engine service light is displaying again today (Thursday)
