Need sim just for location, no calls or texts

Hi,
I've been looking at dementia tracker devices but I'm not convinced by any of them
and I've come to the conclusion that the cheapest android phone with GPS would be
the best way to locate somebody with dementia who has gone missing.
Unfortunately, all the plans focus on minutes and texts etc, but I don't want any of that,
just whatever google locate my device uses - which I'm guessing is just a tiny amount of data.
Is my best bet a 5 quid per month sim only and just not use the calls/texts?
(Note I think I need to make a call every 3 months or so just so it doesn't become inactive
when it's really needed to find a loved one). I would also need it to auto renew so it's always
there when needed.
Any thoughts appreciated.
Thanks
Steve

Is this SIM for you or for a phone carried by the person who needs to be tracked (which I assume is not yourself)..?Evolution, not revolution0

£5 give you 500MB on pure PAYG.
200MB you can get for free.
You can get up to 8Gb x 3 months for free with Smarty - this may help you to establish, how much data you actually need. - https://www.topcashback.co.uk/smarty/ - "Buy one month, get the next two free"0 -
I think for OP conditions, wandering person with dementia, best to check who has best coverage in area first, and choose from there
No point getting say 3 based one if it is poor or intermittent signal in the likely area, I mention 3 because it is poor here, and O2 is not much betterNumerus non sum0 -
Just a thought...
Are there any apps that don't upload location information continuously, and do this only on a request, say by a SMS? In this case the amount of data needed will be really small or even zero if the information can be sent back by a SMS too.0 -

What ended?
"Buy one month, get the next two free" - copied directly from https://smarty.co.uk/plans/large?utm_campaign=awin&utm_medium=affiliates&utm_source=TopCashBack&utm_content=Cashback
Cashback pays for the first month.0 -
Three free Data Reward SIM
200MB a month data, zero cost.
https://www.three.co.uk/Free_SIM_MBB/Order
So won't cost anything to find out if your area is covered.
Then I would use Find My Device app on both phones.0 -
look at vectone.
They used to do £1/month

Perhaps it's something to with cookies and my being an existing customer, but that's not the deal I'm offered at that link. I'm offered a second month free if I go for the new unlimited deal.0 -
Yes, carried by the person who needs to be tracked.
Not me, not yet anyway..
