How so? This guy lives down my road and was walking past. He said I can fix it for you. Could have been handy to have a good local plumber who lives in the road. I didn’t know he was a c**t. How am I the p*ss taker?

Yes. I know quite a few plumbers who would give me a realistic price and put their name to it and I’m happy to pay them for their time. As long as they don’t take the p*ss!
Let me get this straight. You smelled gas and called Transco. A plumber who happened to be passing took a look and on his diagnosis you cancelled Transco (never mind that smelling gas might have meant there was a dangerous fault) and asked the passing plumber to change the pipework which he did the next week (was the pipework leaking all that time?). You think he overcharged you, so now, having already cancelled the free service that might have sorted the problem for nothing at the outset, you are going to pay several other plumbers you know to give you estimates with which you hope to dispute his bill. But actually, you're not sure they won't take the mickey, either. Unbelievable.

As another poster has said, the only person taking the mickey is you.

And there we have it. You know nothing about plumbing, what was necessary or what is reasonable by way of pricing but because you rushed into something without thought and have a bill you don't like, the guy is labelled a "c**t."

No need to explain any more, it's very obvious what sort of person you are.
  • So a trade man said use me and you did even though you already knew plumbers how very strange or in this case daft ! And you say your going to get others to give you prices etc which is totally irrelevant as the work is already done this should always be agreed before totally daft on your part. Did you thing it was going be dirt cheap because he lived down the road ? With these other prices what do you manage to gain everyone has different running costs etc and diffenet profit margains. Totally backwards the way you’ve gone about this.

What the plumber said was transco will just cap off your supply and then you will have to call somebody to find the fault and turn it back on. You would be better just letting me have a look first. So that’s what he did. Said there is a small drop but as smell gas need to replace iron pipe with copper pipe. It wasn’t until after he had done the work that he realised it had made no difference to the leak and it was actually from the pressure regulator on the meter so he called transco and guy changed the notoriously leaky old style pressure regulator and no more leak. So yes I took advice from the local plumber who was wrong and then charged me a massively inflated price. How am I taking the !!!!? I was poorly advised by a so called professional and charged double for the privilege? I don’t understand how it’s all my fault?

It's double now, is it? How did you arrive at that conclusion?

I don’t know nothing about plumbing. I know pipe fitting isn’t that hard and a 5m run isn’t very far. It had to be done by a gas safe guy but I expected the bill to be around £250. This was a few hours work with about £50 worth of materials. I think charging based on £1200 a day for labour makes him a c**t, yes.
  • Maybe he’s a c*nt but only as much as you for being so naive and stupid. You and this plumber sound like a perfect match made in heaven
