Morning all, decided to stop the painkillers, they were making me super dopey in the head, now I will only have to contend with my usual level of dopiness...:)
Today i'm going to fetch some straw bales, lovely famer friend agreed to let me have a couple, he's a bit of an experimenter as well, so he's going to see how the growing in one goes. I used to use his polytunnel to grow in, one year I had 250 tomato plants, it was a very good year for passatta..
Someone put a picture up on FB yesterday of a homeless man in my local area who had a sign up, looking for work. I am contemplating asking him to dig the garden, I'll ask the OH what he thinks about it later on. Just wondering, has anyone got any advice regarding this apart form the usual of be careful etc. I used to see a homeless man regularly last winter who slept n one particular place and let the local charity know, who said they had approached him and he was having none of them. I also spoke to afriend who treats someone in the surgery, and they were saying that they never go to a hostel because they get their stuff knicked if they do...I want to do something, so if the OH agrees, I'll get in touch and ask him to do some digging or levelling.
Captin Marvel is off the radar until next week when OH is off, we can go early and avoid crowds.

dumpling, hope he as a fab time, I went there quite a few years ago now, about 4, by myself and had a great time. There's a cosplay competition there and it was good to see them all parading down the aisle. If he feels up to it, the one in London is really realy good, or the NEC.. nice to see you TA. First anniverarys are always hard, wel, practically every anniversary of something is hard, so I hope you do whatever it is you have to do to make it go a little easier...speky, yep, be careful of working for nothing, one of my friends used to do an average of about 60 hours overtime a month and didn't get paid, we could never persuade her to stop, and it's just unfair. How are you getting on with the work colleague situation? AOD get well soon! Nelski, not too bad, but you relax and recharge! GDB, you could always ask them for that clear out gel stuff, eww! and hope it goes well....elona, a bed that hugs? Love it! SO, yep, know the feeling, which means you need a nice relaxing bath, and some warm covers and maybe a nana nap :) I haven't got a bath otherwise I'd be with you. OL, congrats to him! Lainey, enjoy the meal out!

Wotcha poeple not here [ nice to see you yesterday poppy]

And Holly, what can I say? It must mean that you for then, Happy New Year! [probably doesn't feel like it with the radio to go etc, but you know what I mean..I hope :)
    Felicitous Friday all!

Hi Snoozer, I totally agree. The medicine beforehand makes me feel fairly ill. I seem to be okay with the sedative, although it's the same addictive one that's been cutting a swathe across the USA.
No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?

    Morning all from mehefinland

Cold and dull here but at least the horrendous wind we had yesterday has gone. Field is like a swamp though!

Rileycat is fast asleep on top of the 2 wheeler in the barn. Lazy sod should be called Garfield. I bet he would eat lasagne too :D
Might get to ride the mares if the rain holds of and I can muster up some enthusiasm - think its gone into hiding on chocky cake overload.
Think someone mentioned unpaid overtime ( sorry brain not working well today) but I remember a wise soul once said something on the lines of "today's favours: tomorrows duties" so be careful.

Now I need you lot to give me some sensible suggestions ( a big ask I know :rotfl:) for a suitable gift for Mrs m for our ruby wedding NEXT year. Need to start saving the pennies and as she had her traditional Cadburys cream egg for her burpday I have to top it :D

Having dropped that in I shall exit and wish hugs and spoons to those in need, and welcome back those who have been absent for whatever reason

Morning  Happy International Women's day !

I had a very productive day yesterday and cleaned all the white goods in the kitchen, even the upright hoover was taken apart and all components washed. I shall put it back together today.
Today I was going to make a chicken curry ( korma type ) and put it in the slow cooker, but my chef has elbowed me out of the way, as I thought I was probably going to make a bad job of it and he's such a good cook ;). I expect I will have to do the rice though :rotfl:.
This afternoon we will be going down to the village to watch DGD and her school wander through the streets ( both of them ) in their welsh costumes. The school has decided to celebrate St David's Day today, as they were on half term last week. I can't believe that this time last year it was cancelled because it was snowing .
Lovely to see some MIA's back ( TA, Elona etc ) and some new members :j:j:j. Now we need LW , Tru and Cranky et al to return and we can have a house full.

Holly I can't believe that it was a year ago ! Now look at how far you have come my friend. You should be very proud of yourself and enjoy your lunch out.
taff I hope you are ok after your tumble. Have you got 3 left feet like me ? Take care :A. Sorry I can't help with your quandary about the homeless person. In my experience some of them don't seem to want any help of any kind :(.
    GBD2222 good luck today.
Speky hope your home is lovely and warm when you return. Sometimes we have to trust others, so trust yourself that you have made the right decision about the landlord and the boiler man.
    ScarlettR enjoy your girl's night.
Snoozer Mr Fix It and I took the decision to retire asap because of his diagnosis. Like the dear Bob he was given 5 yearsHe was travelling 70 miles a day for work and I could see that his health was deteriorating before my eyes. Best thing we ever did. Hope you feel better soon.
Nelski safe travelling today, then feet up girl..... that's an order :D
Take care and hugs to anyone under the weather or struggling with everyday problems.

Mehefin sorry I missed your post ( see below ) Re the ruby anniversary -- If MrsM likes jewelry how about a ruby ring ( eternity type ) or ruby bracelet/necklace ?

Apologies I had to make a swift exit after posting as we had a panicked Dad on the phone. It appears he had lost one of his B Soc books, so we went to help him look for it. His lounge looked as if he had been burgled, paper and envelopes everywhere . I got the dining table ready to put his paperwork on and he put his hand straight on the missing book. I wanted to sort through his stuff and help him put it in order but he wasn't having any of it . So we have left him surrounded by his mess. I also offered to go up tomorrow to clean and tidy, but that's not acceptable either as he's going out. Well I tried my best to help and that's all I can do :(.
And now it's raining heavily so we are awaiting a text from the school as to whether the parade will go ahead.
Gosh I sound like a real moaning minnie  Sorry. I think I'll go back to bed and start today all over again !
    nan xx

    Afternoon all.

Late one from me, had a very traumatic night. I woke at 1.30am (premonition?) to find DM lying on the bathroom floor. Long story short...she's broken the head of her right femur! Great service from NHS all round. By some minor miracle A&E was relatively quiet so she was whizzed through a tranche of tests smoothly. She's now tucked up in a hospital bed dosed up with morphine and a nerve block.

Surgery will be done tomorrow- her 91st birthday- to pin the fracture. Meanwhile I'm going back to bed.

Lovely to see you again TA.

I hope everyone has a happy Friday.

Oh dear, I hope it all goes smoothly for her...

  • Oh GERS your poor DM. She is certainly having it rough these days. I hope her recovery is uneventful. I had a Gt Aunt with brittle bone disease and we lost count of the number of times she broke her femur. Often just turning over in bed was enough to break it.

SNOOZER you must never think that way or regret the decision. We made the same decision when Bob was approaching 60 for the same reasons as you. (I had already retired being a couple of years older.) His own dad had died at 61 and my lovely dad died suddenly just into retirement. So retire at 60 he did. We bought a caravan and sited it on a peaceful woodland site in Nidderdale. We still enjoyed our overseas holidays and spent as much time as we could at the caravan, walking the hills and dales for up to 9/10 miles a day. We were so glad we made this decision as shortly before Bob's 65th birthday we were given the shock cancer diagnosis after a routine AAA scan. How glad we were we'd had those lovely 5 years of early retirement before illness took over.

If there is anyone reading along who is dithering over taking early retirement, just take it as we have no idea what could be waiting round the corner for us.

    Love to all xx
