This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Morning everyone
It’s a year ago today that I got Sectioned and admitted to hospital. At the time I thought that things couldn’t possibly get any worse. How wrong I was.
If only I had of known at the time that I was going to get diagnosed with cancer soon after coming out I would have viewed it differently. It sure has made me realise that you never know what is just around the corner.
Today I’m going out for lunch with a friend. I don’t want to be here today. While I’m sure that there won’t be a repeat of last year today, I don’t feel safe staying here just in case. I think it has something to do with how I felt unsafe here when I came back home, because the experience of being Sectioned and removed from my own home had made me worry that people would come and take me away again, after I came home last year. The anniversary of the day has caused it all to resurface.
The house is clean and tidy (apart from the inside of the windows) so I don’t have to do anything before I go out.
I do just want to say, that I really value the support and virtual friendship that everyone who has posted on this thread over the past year, whether or not they are still posting has shown me. It has meant so much to me, and made a real difference.
Have a good a day everyone whatever you are doing.0 -
Good morning everyone :hello:
Hugs Holly, I know what you mean. It has been 20 years since my last section (thanks to my wonderful Steve keeping me safe) but I still have the fear and I am very twitchy around hospitals. I hope you have a great day out with your friend and manage to cope with your thoughts xxx
I woke up with cramp in my good leg so that was not particularly pleasant. I have hobbled downstairs and thought I would potter around the net to distract myself. I am still tired though so will go back to bed once Steve gets up for work as I don't want to disturb him again.
Dinner last night turned into a fend for yourself occasion as the chicken was still frozen in the middle so I will be making something with it tonight. I have a BBQ bake in the bag thingy somewhere so I will try and find that and pop the chicken in that. I need to sort out my herbs and spices cupboard today as well as it is overflowing and they keep falling out when you open the door.
Lee is off to Cardiff comic-con tonight with his friend and her family. He is beyond excited as he is staying in a hotel for the weekend for the first time ever. He has decided not to dress up himself but just enjoy the experience. I really hope he has a great time and it all goes well.
Right, I am off, hope you all have a great time whatever you are up to, take care xx0 -
Morning all and thank you for starting today's thread Hollyharvey.
It must feel very strange for you Holly and I hope that today will be a pleasant day and that this takes some of the sting out of the day.
Yesterday I went back to bed and slept for 4 hours. When I woke, I thought that I'd wasted half a day hut OH pointed out that I must really have needed the sleep.
I've kept up with the cystitis treatment and have just one sachet left. I'm pretty sure that this effects a cure by tasting so vile that your body decides to improve. It is like salt plus chemicals with added synthetic fruit, yeuch. I am feeling better.
No plans other than the Friday Tidy today, I've stayed at home as I needed to be near the loo this week. If it stops raining while daylight, I'll go for a walk and feed the ducks.
Thinking of those of us, present and absent, who are going through the mill for whatever reason.I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back0 -
Morning wide awakies and all still snoozing
Friday at last :j Back to Yorkshire soon for the last time ...its been a tough week travel wise but next week is lots calmer...feast and famine again. Working tonight too so it will be a long one. Once home I will be parking the car up and leaving it on the drive till Tuesday ...OL I cant stand driving trust me theres no pleasure round here with every motorway down to 50 with roadworks and constant jams...today I will leave at 5.30 and get there far too early as usual but miss some of it. Would far rather stay at home and Friday Tidy but needs must. Car park gastronomy today is cheese and pickle butties and a buttered sconeFood tonight will be something easy I'm thinking a fish finger butty
taff Ouch  hope your not too battered and bruised today you poor thing
Holly No doubt you have had one tough year I remember this day last year it was awful and very frustrating to not be able to just sort it out for you. Start this new year as you mean to go on now having fun with your friend.
Have a fierce Friday everyone0 -
Morning All
Hard frost out this morning, I'll need to go and defrost the car before I leave for swimming.
Yesterday was unbelievably busy, hoping for a calmer day today. I really enjoyed our friends catch up yesterday, DD paid us a visit too.
Hugs to everyone struggling, have a happy Friday, take care. XX0 -
Holly I shall be thinking of you today. I don't think any of us will forget the traumatic time you had this day last year.
In fact a lot of us on here have had our lives turned upside down with events during this last year. It was this time last year (on my birthday of all days) that Bob started feeling ill, after 5 years of keeping reasonably well on the cancer treatment and injections he was having regularly. Little did we know at the time it was the beginning of the end and our lives were to be ruled by more and more hospital appointments and stays. It was a truly horrible time until he finally lost his battle in October.
I have had to try and sort out a new sort of normal life for myself and with the help of my supportive family and friends I will get there. Some days are better than others and quite often the least thing can set me back. It will be a long process as 47 years of marriage can't be forgotten overnight and holds so many memories of happier times.
I know lots of you on here are coping with worrying health changes to either themselves or their loved ones and my thoughts are with you all. xx"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"0 -
Morning all, and I wish you all the very best, particularly those with health problems. Holly, it sounds horrendous, and you sound very brave.
I'm off later today to have yet another colonoscopy. My third since October, and I'm not looking forward to it! I have trouble getting clear, so this time round I haven't eaten anything for two weeks. It's surprisingly easy to do. I'm not anorexic, by the way. Quite the opposite, unfortunately. No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0 -
Morning everyone
Hollyharvey - thanks for starting us off x
TA - good to hear from you, don't be a stranger x
Hi to anyone that's reading but doesn't want/feel able to post at present x
Hugs to those that want/need one x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
DH up and gone to work stupid early, DS1 still in his pit, I'm showered, dressed and just finished my porridge.
Now light, cold and frosty start to the day here. Drying underfoot after all the unsettled wet weather of the last few days, but rain forecast again soon.
Dinner last night was liver, bacon, sausage, mash, pan fried spring greens, broc and gravy - lovely it was too. Tonight will be something and chips - easy shove in the oven food.
Yesterday was ok, the work training took up all morning and then into the afternoon by the time I got back. I then went to town and tackled the "to do" list for there, and eventually got lunch at 2.30 - nearly didn't bother but knew I'd then be tempted to snack. I did get lots of little bits done, so am now waiting for my passport to come back, costs a fortune but needs must.
Today will be a day of food shopping first, then washing, drying and ironing, our bed needs changing, housework etc. Plenty to be going on with.
Keep safe and well x

TA
It is good to see you again. We got the news about DH the day after my very happy birthday thinking everything had been successfully treated so every year it is a mixed blessing.
Holly
Have a lovely day out and I am only sorry for the reason for it and hope things improve for you.
Dumpling
I had no idea things had been so bad for you and well done on the efforts you are making to feel more involved in things. Hope Lee has a great time and it boosts his spirits.
DD and baby are due around seven thirty so I am going to get dressed and try to look presentable.
I put my new duvet and matching sheet on the bed last night and the fleecy sheet and reversible fleece duvet is so cosy and comfortable. It is as if your bed gives you a hug when you get in.
Hugs to all."This site is addictive!"
