I've been there myself, believing you can "change" someone by trying to help them and I learnt the hard way. I would break this off now before you're in a position where your fully supporting him financially, mentally and emotionally and getting zero support in return. I believe a relationship should be a partnership of similar contribution and this sounds like it's fairly one sided. The resentment will only get worse over time.0

Well it was an opinion, not an assertion.

We got married four months after meeting on a blind date and this year will have been married for 48 years
However,I agree the OP's relationship doesn't seem very healthy and he should end it.(AKA HRH_MUngo)
