I don't think this is one of those situations

I've been there myself, believing you can "change" someone by trying to help them and I learnt the hard way. I would break this off now before you're in a position where your fully supporting him financially, mentally and emotionally and getting zero support in return. I believe a relationship should be a partnership of similar contribution and this sounds like it's fairly one sided. The resentment will only get worse over time.0

Agreed - but I was responding to your assertion that a couple can't be 'partners' after 'only' 5 monthsI don't think this is one of those situations

Well it was an opinion, not an assertion.

We got married four months after meeting on a blind date and this year will have been married for 48 years
However,I agree the OP's relationship doesn't seem very healthy and he should end it.(AKA HRH_MUngo)

Imagine someone holding forth on biology whose only knowledge of the subject is the Book of British Birds, and you have a rough idea of what it feels like to read Richard Dawkins on theology: Terry Eagleton0 -
@OP - The way you worded your post makes me think you know what you need/want to do.0
