UK hits 500 000 SMET2 smart meters
The body has just announced that the 500 000 SMETS2 installations mark has been met, with the 500 000th installed by E.On

British gas refused to replace the poor L&G e470 here and just reset the communication hub,the engineer did inform me that these meters have recived a firmware upgrade and are now one below SMETS2 but won't work switching supplier.I anticipate the red HAN light will be recurring with top up's by vend code.I was told leaving the in home display connect would be helpful with the problem but theres no benefit over the old card/key meter, there was in fact less not having to enter a 20 code number by an up/down button.0 -
I have just chatted to First Utility to make that when my switch over to them is finished will my SMET 2 meters from SSE will work as Smart meters. To my surprise they told me that they are NOT compatible with there systems to work as Smart meters so they will work as non Smart Meters. I thought the reason for SMET 2 meters as that they work with any energy providers when you switch. Is this another botch up.0

You misunderstand - the SMETS2 smart meters should work with the DCC however that doesn't mean that the suppliers are yet geared up to accept data from the DCC or transfer their systems or existing smart over to the DCC.
Even existing smart meters whether SMETS1 or SMETS2 will have to be reconfigured from sending their data to whoever supplied them to send it to the DCC.
It wont happen automatically. They'll need to be individually enrolled which I suspect will take a lot more time than most people have estimated and I guess ther'll also be a lot of scope for problems and mistakes.
It will be easier for companies who already have smart meters that are still smart as they can communicate with them. Those that have been transferred will have be to be identified, reactivated, updated and then enrolled.
Dont hold your breath as non of this is trivial
AFAIK FU are using Secure meters which obviously work with their existing systems, not the DCC so they wont be able to enroll your meter onto their existing systems until they've started transferring over the the DCCNever under estimate the power of stupid people in large numbers0 -
