If you dont know what you are doing then I suggest you get an electrician in to have a look - stabbing in the dark and using guesses from this forum wont help much if there is a problem.

The device shown above will stop the heater working and stop it getting too hot - so there's not much point in looking for it if the heater seems to be working. The likelyhood is that the input stat might be malfunctioning if the heater is getting everso hot.

    Thanks mser's
Sensible I think as suggested to set from 1 and 3 ( I chose 2.5 approx)
Re check tomorrow and call local electric whom I assume were too busy to respond to my online enquiry around time of my original post this morning.
Tonight the heater is maybe cooler though still feel the top and sides possibly front are roasting hot even whilst switched off at mains,
I'll switch on at mains with the reduced settings which I have tried in previous years and know what to expect tomorrow if the heater is working correctly as it shouldn't be roasting hot at all more low Luke warm to touch with very little or no air heat effect with output set to 1.
Until tomorrow post massive thanks to everyone who has helped today with my once in. Lifetime storage heater type fault

  • Hi,

the fact that you switched it off at the mains this morning makes no difference if it was after the overnight charging period, as it wouldn't be charging anyway.

Of course you are still getting heat from it, it's a storage heater, and as it was hotter than normal will take longer to cool down.

Leave it switched off tonight, allow it to cool, and switch on again tomorrow night at a reduced setting.

Since re checked and it is cooling down albeit slowly.
Is it possible to switch it on tonight maybe from 23:00 hrs (Sse eco 7 is later start though not much later) and get an idea if it's working tomorrow morning.
That would allow an extra day to arrange electrician if required.
    Thanks

  • Hi,

shut down the output, it will still hold heat overnight, then if you are up early enough in the morning to catch the last of the cheap rate, switch it on then.

    Sse eco7 winter
    between 11:30pm and 7:30am
Which means it could be lower rate if I switch on from 23:30 tonight.
If I were to switch on tomorrow morning from 07:30 am then it would only be maybe 1 hour approx of Lower rate.

  • Hi,

you will still be able to notice if it is heating up, or check the meter speed before and after switching on.

Switched off from mains since yesterday morning,
Storage heater still had considerable heating upto 23:30 gmt approx last night.
Much cooler this morning though not freezing cold like it usually goes.
Switched on from mains 06:36 gmt approx.
Noticed meter was spinning at a standard pace before and after switching on from mains.
    Have taken photos of readings.
Plan to re check both heater and electric from 07:25 gmt approx to catch pre 07:30 eco 7 rate.
    Input 1.5 output 1
All going well I'll repeat overnight though I've never appreciated such low settings late winter/spring/ummer which is why is preferred switching off until winter time as I don't feel there's any benefit from such low settings.
