Noticed once centre screw, is that to be removed to replace the input control dials
Anyone care to guess make of storage heater so I can buy correct input control dials.
It's a Dimplex XT. http://www.storageheater.co.uk/dimpex/xl-xt/xt12.html
BTW, you have the output set to maximum, so not surprising it feels hot.0 -

Thanks appreciated.
I noticed I out was set to 5/almost max.
I've dropped it to 1.
Output 3.
As I switch it off until winter, is there any advice to keep it on all year maybe at lower settings.Replenished CRA Reports.2020 Nissan Leaf 128-149 miles top charge. Savings depleted. VM Stream tv M250 Volted to M350 then M500 since returned to 1gb0 -
You should set the input with a 2p coin according to tomorrow's weather forecast:
15 degrees or more: Heater off
12 to 15 degrees: Input set to 1.
9 to 11 degrees: Input set to 2.
6 to 8 degrees: Input set to 3.
3 to 5 degrees: Input set to 4.
Below 3 degrees: Input set to 5.
The procedure for the output control (boost) is below that paint spill.0 -
As I'm considering switching off only storage heater until winter 2019.
I woke this morning go find the heater too hot to touch.
Any reason why it's gone boiling hot today, so much so I switched it off.
Noticed electric was spinning faster than ever before, until it almost stopped after storage heater was switched off at mains.
Very old school eco7 heater.
Warmest ever Feb day on record.
- we are about 10 degrees C higher than usual
- spend nothing
- reduce the 'input'
- temp tomorrow about the same as today !!

Thanks mser's
Only concern is my heater continues to fell roasting after a few hours of switching it off at mains and electric dial spinning slower as usual.
I'll re check tomorrow as suggested and call Electric company if required, if not and it cools down I'm happy to try two of the suggested dials anyway.
If possible, please confirm if the screw between both dials needs unscrewed and is it a small panel that is then removed to allow access to removing the dials, hopefully other than a screwdriver, I won't need any additional tools.Replenished CRA Reports.2020 Nissan Leaf 128-149 miles top charge. Ideally the boost control should be set to it's lowest position and left there unless you want more heat later in the day. It should always be set back overnight. The heater is probably losing heat as fast as it's charging.
Storage heaters are very slow to respond because they charge up overnight and let the heat out gradually during the day, however if you have the boost wound up (like yours appears to be) then the heat will be escaping almost as fast as it's being replenished - that's why the heater is red hot and the place is too hot in the morning.
Turning down the input will reduce the amount of heat stored and turning down the boost control wil reduce the amount of heat lost during charging and during the day. Setting them correctly should reduce the amount of energy required to keep the palce comfortable
Try setting the imput to around 2-3 and the boost to 1 and see how you get on. Leave it for a couple of days to settle down rather than re-adjusting it every day.Never under estimate the power of stupid people in large numbers0 -
Considering I immediately switched off from mains this morning.
Is it a small fortune to switch on from mains tonight to re heat with reduced settings.
Only asking as I usually switch them on once a year.Replenished CRA Reports.2020 Nissan Leaf 128-149 miles top charge. Savings depleted. VM Stream tv M250 Volted to M350 then M500 since returned to 1gb0 -
If it was really hot to the touch - way hotter than ever before - there is a fair chance the contacts on the input stat have welded shut or the melted metal build up has bridged the gap, they spark as they open and close - quite a common occurrence. You can clean the points up with a contact file (or a nail board).0
