I think she probably never really wanted to go.... perhaps she was just being polite and felt pressured into agreeing. Maybe her husband has said why don't they go away together and she'd prefer that.

My question is how long should I give her to make the first payment? She’s had my bank details for 5 days now and hasn’t paid. To those people saying I forced her into this, she has her own mind, she could’ve said no, she had time to think about this. Regardless of what she earns If she’s that short on cash that she can’t pay $40 (which was her idea to pay that much), or she can’t find 5minutes in her day to set up the transfer, then according to advice on here I should cancel her off the booking. Do I give her another 2 days, a week, more? Should I send send her messages asking for the money or just leave it as she knows she has to pay? I’m after advice please not criticism.
  • It sounds to me she's having second thoughts about going on this trip and perhaps using money as an excuse.

If you value the friendship I'd give her a get out option - instead of contacting her constantly about the money I'd come straight out & ask her if she wants to cancel her booking whilst simply paying any cancellation charges.

@chesky I didn’t pressure or force her to come along. She’s told me numerous times she’s really looking forward to it. She has her own mind and can say no if she wants to.

@gettingtheresometime if she didn’t want to come why not just say so, she had time to think it over before the booking, and she’s had my bank details for 5 days, that’s more than enough time for her to say I’ve changed my mind. She’s told me numerous time she’s looking forward to it.

Pick an arbitrary day, maybe Thursday and if she hasnt given it to you by then, [and it'll be two weeks worth by then] cancel her trip on the Friday. Don't expect her to pay the cancellation fee though and accept you've probably lost a friend.

Perhaps she did want to come and then something, perhaps even a better offer happened to change her mind & she doesn't know how to tell you.

Perhaps her hubby is a control freak and she thought she could sneak payments to you without knowing but he's found out.

Regardless of why she hasn't paid, she hasn't so you need to be direct with her and ask if she still wants to go and take it from there.

@gettingtheresometime thanks for your advice. I guess asking if she still wants to come is better than asking if she’s paid yet! Think I’ll give her a few more days, so she’s had every opportunity to pay or to say she doesn’t want to come and then I’ll ask if she’s still interested :)

Update : she sent me confirmation of her first payment this morning, however, it’s been transferred to the wrong account (not my bank account). A step in the right direction but I’ve still not got any money!
