You just need a basic OBD2 reader; about £15 on AMazon or eBay. You can plug it in, read the error code(s) and reset the light to see if it happens again. Chances are its nothing much e.g. P0420 cat efficiency or something like that.

Thanks Ed. Today the light went off on its own..will monitor it and get the kit if the light comes back on.

Hi this is a separate issue but I decided to stick it on this thread as it is the same car. I didn't do anything about the above issues, they were advisories and I don't think they are causing any problems.

Hyundai Coupe 06 plate. I bought with minimal service history over two years ago and it has been running well. I replaced timing belt after I bought it.

I am noticing less power when I press on the gas and sometimes a lot more 'revving' noise when I press on it without any more power. It is fine when up to 50 mph and more, runs really well as before but I find people are tailgating me and this is partly my fault as the car won't accelerate well at lower speeds. I thought I was imagining it at first. I suppose it could be one of several issues and I wonder whether it is something I could troubleshoot myself? I noticed that it is showing about 2000 revs when in third gear. I don't think it should be? hanks for any advice!

Sounds a lot like clutch slip. Watch the rev counter as you try to accelerate - I bet the engine revs are going up and the road speed isn't.

If that's the case, then it's new clutch time.

    Is it manual or automatic?
If auto, could be signs of low gearbox fluid or a gearbox fault.
If manual could be a slipping clutch.

It's manual. Oh dear that's pretty major if it is new clutch. thanks for the responses. I'll have another look but yes I think the revs go up but slowly.

    Hi Adrian

I've had another drive this morning. It is just sluggish but I am not convinced it is slipping clutch. The rev counter is low if anything and it does go up when I press on the gas and the car speeds up. It just seems to speed up more slowly than before and isn't as pleasant to drive - a bit laboured.

    Hi

I've now realised it is likely to be slipping clutch. It has got a bit worse and I got a few err rude gestures from a passing Audi driver the other morning (5.30am so no traffic about and he could overtake, so really unnecessary:p).

Can they sometimes be adjusted or is it usually clutch replacement? I've had a couple of recommendations locally for mechanics so I will get in touch with them but any advice on here before I go for it would be helpful as always.
  • If it is slipping, the clutch will need changing. Use a garage not a fast fit place.
