The leak is behind the radiator? Then it's almost certainly got a power steering fluid cooler, which is what's leaking - because it's rotten... You're just seeing where the fluid's running to.

In the UK, you really don't need one - so you can eliminate it by simply rejigging the pipework. At the simplest, a U between the hoses in and out of the cooler. A neater solution would be to re-route the pipework (probably the low-pressure return from the rack to the reservoir).

No AdrianC there is slight seepage behind the radiator but my friend spotted another hose which is probably what the MOT guy was referring to.

I could have another look and give a better description if that helps..or try and upload a pic. Thanks

It is in Luton though and there are loads of reasonably priced mechanics around, just a street or two away
I see you're in Luton, as am I.
I can recommend Considine Motors on Midland Road, for both MOTs and repair work.
I do most car repair stuff myself (because i'm tight!), but i've never had an MOT fail there that I don't agree with, and their labour costs are very fair.
I've heard of many people fall victim of discounted MOTs - and the garage finds loads of minor issues to generate work to offset the discounted MOT...
These guys charge the recommended £50 for the MOT - but don't generate work!

Thanks Alan. I take my car to the Luton Council depot, they do MOTs for the public and no repairs. But it is worth knowing about the garage you recommend as I may need repairs in future. Thanks

Can someone please let me know the easiest way to add a photo? I've done it before but for some reason it's not working. This pic is too big and I can't amend it.

I can't get a link for the photo..it is saved on my PC. I also can't copy and paste it as it doesn't appear..

I thought this forum didn't allow image uploads?

Alice - upload your photo to a hosting site (imgur, tinypic etc.) then copy the link in a reply here.
  • It is a bigger hose and it is completely wet..it comes out fairly horizontally from the reservoir.
    .
Sounds like the one that goes from the reservoir to the power steering pump. Low/no pressure so just check clamps and replace it if necessary if the hose has deteriorated. Also check there are no cracks in the reservoir allowing fluid to seep out and along the hose.
