You do not have a choice as it's an open court. Only very few types of hearings in the courts are held in camera.

I do realise that it is an open court but I don't have to like the idea of having an audience.

You are a really nice guy Lami:)

"de minimis" has now been recognised and should be used in a defence for similar cases to make judges aware

Where would these PPC's be without the four dodgy legals who thrive on extortion and scare tactics ?

Even Excel pass the buck to Elms who clearly are happy to proceed on such a trivial matter

From what I understand, the new CoP will address these "trivial" issues

PS: Good luck Snake, we are all routing for you on the 26th

I agree, de minimis should be mentioned more frequently.

I posted similarly a few years ago, little has changed.

Part of me thinks that PPCs must be severely regulated, perhaps banned in residential car parks, but the liberal part of me, that opposed to nannyism, feels that people must take responsibility for their own actions. As a consular officer in many far flung outposts I have dealt with more than my share of stupid people, but I suppose you cannot legislate for stupidity.

I predict that sooner or later, someone will be driven to suicide by these scammers, the media will get hold of it, and their staff and premises attacked.

Is this scam unique to the UK, I never came across it in over 40 years living in Spain, nor was t was I aware of it in neighbouring countries?

What is needed is an appeal system similar to that available to fight council tickets.

WRT to DCBL, I take a different view. Landlords need to employ the odd heavy when scumbag tenants take advantage, the Law is entirely on the side of the tenant.
You never know how far you can go until you go too far.

I have wondered that myself as £100 is a lot of money to someone on a minimum wage, zero hours contract.

Elms Legal reside in a couple of rented rooms about a quarter of a mile from where I live. I'm often tempted to heave a brick through their window to show them how I feel about this parasite company.
What part of "A whop bop-a-lu a whop bam boo" don't you understand?

The reporter from the local paper can, if he wishes, sit at the back taking notes, and write up a report for publication.

I have been providing assistance, including Lay Representation at Court hearings (current score: won 57, lost 14), to defendants in parking cases for over 5 years. I have an LLB (Hons) degree, and have a Graduate Diploma in Civil Litigation from CILEx. However, any advice given on these forums by me is NOT formal legal advice, and I accept no liability for its accuracy.

Judge Rinder's cases always attach a good audience, I suppose it is his hissy fits that attract people.

I have often thought that if I saw SRS in a pub when I am in that area, would I chuck my drink over him. Nah, it's a waste of good wine.

As BP says, they are at the back (that's if anyone else goes in)
Probably it's going to be you, someone from the other side and the judge
Judges can be very friendly and respectful and will guide you, they know you are not a professional
And, if the other side gets a bit heavy, the judge will slap their wrists
  • I have been to Stafford Court before when I was an executor (probate) and we just sat around a table. I thought that this would a similar arrangement. Obviously a probate is simpler but you still have to swear on oath.
