is the newcastle building society a/c offering about 3% the best bet for someone to invest about £6000, which can be done in 4 installments!

    Doesn't look like it is

Good article but MSE still don't really "get it". There is still this obsession with using up your ISA allowance at all costs.

But come the end of March 2015, you could move your cash into an ISA to keep its tax-free status without losing your allowance for the current tax year.
Remember the saying: if it looks too good to be true it almost certainly is.

You do have to give it to them though, with this article they have moved a lot closer to suggesting the best cash options to their readers. Hopefully a lot of these readers will work out themselves what is best for them, and some will also come on the forum and will hopefully find additional relevant information. Some will sadly still flock to the cash ISA slaughterhouse like little lambs.

BTW, I think it is very funny that they are talking about loopholes.

Loophole can be defined by thefreedictionary.com as:
A small hole or slit in a wall, especially one through which small arms may be fired.

  • Anyone else got 2 Santander 123 current accounts under same name
both earning 3% as I know Martin had these on one of his web pages to sign up and open a second one but I no longer see that advertised, have Santander stopped that happening? if you already have 2 open ( from following Martins tip) I assume they still have to honour both and pay interest on both ?...

Been several months since Santander have restricted new applicants to one sole and one joint 123. Doesn't impact existing account holders who were smart enough to make hay whilst the sun shone........

Nothing to do with top cash ISAs, btw. DOH.

I opened an account online with Halifax in order to transfer my ISA into their 18 month fixed rate. However, after nearly three weeks I still haven't received the promised transfer form from them (which I have phoned four times about:mad:) and so feel I might as well start looking elsewhere.

Does the fact that I have opened an ISA account, albeit I haven't deposited anything into it, count as my ISA account for the 2014/2015 ISA year?

I am thinking of giving up on the ISA altogether and just finding a decent paying fixed rate bond - so old I can't see that it would make a lot of difference now:(

no, only new money counts towards your ISA allowance

Have you maxed out the high-interest-paying current accounts? Plenty of discussion about these on the forum, and even the main MSE site has been discussing better paying accounts.

You can do this online - no need to wait for them to send any forms.
