if you have a sort code and account number, why dont you just deposit a cheque at your local branch or do a BACS from your existing bank account?!

Thanks for the feedback but for different reasons I need the convenience of online banking. I have had similar experiences trying to simply open a current account in the past with Santander so I think I will try elsewhere in the future. Cheers.

EDIT: Applied for a current account via the online banking service and was told that I'd hear within 14 days whether my application had been approved or not. Whenever I've applied for new accounts at Lloyds TSB it's been an instant approval or rejection. :/
Well the account is now in my online banking account list but according to an advisor I spoke to yesterday, it's not open yet. I also received post from them today asking for evidence of ID & address.

Spoke to an advisor today who said the account is open and just waiting a £100 deposit so my card can be sent out. He also said the forms I'd been sent are complete rubbish and that I don't need to provide evidence or return the application form as the account is already open.

Oh the joys of banking with Halifax! :(

EDIT: OK, all seems sorted now. I asked about getting the monthly £5 (net) as £6.25 (gross) instead, since I don't pay tax. They said I'd have to claim it back at the end of the year. Bit annoying to be honest.

Can't you fill out form R85? See here: Bank and building society interest - Key information.

Not sure why, but the Halifax Reward payment doesn't work like that. You can't complete an R85 for the £5 Reward.

I was told to fill out an R85 by a Halifax advisor but that same person said I can't fill in a form to get it paid in gross and that I'd have to claim it back...

A few threads on here say that suggest an R40 instead, which looks like it'd be more applicable. However, I'd have no idea what to put for half of the boxes, lol.

what is the best paying ISA at the moment and I dont want a online one. Also can someone tell me I ve got 2 ISA that are not paying high rate of interest what shall I do ?
  • You really need to look though http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/savings/best-cash-isa and decide from there.

If you have previous years cash isa's paying small amounts of interest it would be worth while transferring them to a new provider. DO NOT WITHDRAW THE MONEY THOUGH to do this. Use a transfer form available from your new provider.
  • Hi, not sure where you live or work but if it has a Glasgow postcode you can get 4% from Glasgow Credit Union and they accept transfers-in. Link: glasgowcu.com/content.asp?section=198
  • HI guys! I want to ask for your opinion on this Cash ISA Fixed Rate Bond from Clydesdale Bank offering 3.3% for 1 year and 4.50% till 2016. Is there a difference between 'Bond' and 'Savings'? I suppose the most common Cash Isa account is a Savings one?

Building Societies and Banks that call a savings account a bond generally use the term to mean that it's a fixed rate account.
