I've filled in my and my other half's forms so hope that sorts things out quickly. What did we do without these helpful forums!

Why does Money supermarket not include Kent Reliance in their lists. I am a member & have just got some excellent ISA rates from them.

What happens if you accidentally transfer money into an old ISA, realise you made a mistake, and then transfer it out again a few minutes later. Does this remove some of the £5340 allowance?

Yes. As soon as you put the money into the ISA, it deducted the amount from your ISA allowance.

There isn't actually a concept of "old" and "new" ISAs - it's just an account, to which you can subscribe a limited amount per tax year. If you pay into any ISA after 5 April, you've just subscribed for the new tax year, and all you can do is transfer it to another ISA provider or lose your tax free status.

So if you've accidentally just made a payment, don't just take the cash out - have it transferred properly - if permitted - to the ISA of your choice
You've never seen me, but I've been here all along - watching and learning...

I've had a reply from Santander informing me that my application has been abandoned, and that if I would like them to to re-activate the application to fax ID to Bradford Openings quoting my OLA number. No explanation was given as to why they abandoned it when I filled in all required information and already hold an ISA with them. I'm certainly not sending my ID to a fax machine for the cleaner to pick up!

Has anyone else had this response. I'm at my wits end and will apply for the next best account that I can manage to open! Not sure if it's worth bothering to complain further.

Also are Cahoot customers eligible for the 3.5% Loyalty bonus ISA?
  • Hi,
Can anyone clarify for me please.

I have an ISA from a previous year on a low rate - can I transferthis to one of the ISA's currently offering to allow transfers in but then not put any money in from current tax year.

Can I then also open another ISA (which offers a better rate but does not allow transfers in) and put in my allowance for this tax year.

I am therefore opening two Isa's but only putting my financial year allowance into one (the other is purely previous years allowances only)

    Many thanks :)

Yes to both. You can transfer last year's ISA and also fund a new one. The only thing you can't do is put this year's allowance of £5340 into more than one ISA.
