Anyone on this list courtesy of gov.uk can verify a passport:Yellowman said:dgpur said:
I just tried opening an easy access with Aldermore… and they want certified copies of two forms of ID. Not only is that absurd, but I only had an account with them as recently as June this year (for which they asked for no ID!). Ridiculous.Deleted_User said:
For me, Aldermore are a pain in the !!!!!!. I tried to open an account with them last year, by the time they got round to opening it their rate had been surpassed and I never went through with it. I suspect it will be the same this time round as I've just tried again and despite living in the same house for over 20 years and having the same current account for 18 months, they say that's not enough and want me to post them proof of this, that and the other. I can't be bothered.Noneforit999 said:If Aldermore nudged their 1 year fixes a little higher, I would consider opening an Easy Access at 2.75% and a 1 year fixed to keep it all in the same place.

The Post Office provides a document certification service for £12.75 (1-3 documents):
www.postoffice.co.uk/identity/document-certification
... but are there placess where documents can be certified free of charge? If you know anyone on that list you should be able to get it done for free.Who can certify a document
Your document must be certified by a professional person or someone well-respected in your community (‘of good standing’). You could ask the following if they offer this service:
- bank or building society official
- councillor
- minister of religion
- dentist
- chartered accountant
- solicitor or notary
- teacher or lecturer
The person you ask should not be:
- related to you
- living at the same address
- in a relationship with you
I have neither a passport nor driving licence, my disabilities rendering both pointless. And while they allow for certification of other documents that I do have they are asking that:a) I get them copied;b) I get those copies certified by a qualified person; and
c) I get those posted.
That’s a lot to ask.
None of it is necessary in our banking system, and to request any of it is frankly nonsensical and not a little ableist.4 -
Aldermore want a copy of my bank statement because they can't verify my nominated account!0

The most ridiculous thing about this is, you want to DEPOSIT money, not withdraw it or borrow. If you deposit money from an account, that should be your nominated account and that should be good enough.dgpur said:Bridlington1 said:

Don't bother with them, they don't deserve your custom, and I question whether they really want it. Wait a few days, a better deal will come along.3 -
I have lived in the same house for 25 years, same bank account for 50 years. For some reason I am always asked for proof docs except... for the first time ever... Zopa let me straight in. I was so shocked I thought I was being scammed.0

My wife's the same, can't get sufficient ID sometimes even to get on the government website once to check her records for NI purposes.
She pays the council tax (for over 40 years same address) been banking with the same bank for 30 years but has no credit card, no mobile phone bill, no drivers licence no passport.
They can't verify her without the above stuff, especially licence/passport.0 -
"The most ridiculous thing about this is, you want to DEPOSIT money, not withdraw it or borrow."
But the assumption is that you will withdraw the money at sometime. The banks have to check that you are who you claim to be, what your tax status is, and where the money came from. These are all legal or regulatory requirements.2 -
My wife's done a few bank switches in her time no problems, so i think it's the particular company that's just being ultra picky in who they want.Nick_C said:"The most ridiculous thing about this is, you want to DEPOSIT money, not withdraw it or borrow."

Anybody know how often Aldermore pay interest? Currently with Tandem which is monthly which i like.Mortgage Free 22/03/17
MissWillow is my OH!0 -
They are being picky because they will have had an audit and their regulator will have told them to tighten up and they have to show willing.Brewer21 said:
