I really cannot see any downside of an app only bank.2 -
Maybe spending that 20% or more on a new phone or device that will actually run the app in the first place?4

I really cannot see any downside of an app only bank. The downside of an App only bank for some of us is the associated microscopic keyboard together with the fact that many posters have reported problems with the Chase App. Not to use it is my choice which I am permitted to have, just like you are permitted to have your choice. However, even for microscopic keyboard lovers, the top 10 table posts here are also extremely useful for those who have more than £85,000 to deposit, So please don't criticise the usefulness of the posts.Reginald Molehusband3 -

Once installed I have had no problems with the Chase app. Others may differ of course.2

I understand people moaning about chase app, as some have had issues. Old tech.
New technology it a !!!!!!.
But app based is the way forward.
Instant account opening, sort code and account number etc.
Plus HSBC, TSB, NatWest and Halifax in my area have closed or are closing in the next few months.
The only place I can pay money in is the post office.

Someone complained on the regular saver site about me posting that Chase was paying out interest tomorrow Sunday 1st May. I thought it was useful as most posters would not expect interest to be paid until Tuesday 3rd May. Those posters who have put £85,000 in the account will probably want to skim the interest out. Sorry if some did not find helpful"Look after your pennies and your pounds will look after themselves"1

I posted that and withdrew it immediately because I did not feel I should have mentioned it, as it was posted in the spirit of helpfulness As you say, it may not be trivial to those relying on a monthly income payday. I have just become oversensitized through what I perceive to be so much chatter about items I personally perceive to be off topic.
The problem on these two threads of the nattering and worrying about off topic issues such as opened accounts not showing immediately in online banking is that it devalues the usefulness of the thread in terms of the purpose for which it was originally created. It's returning to the days when an impending Virgin regular saver maturity event rendered the entire thread noisy and of minimal usefulness for those who simply want to hear about the best easy access or regular saver accounts.
All this is made worse by the backwards step in the forum software which stopped emailing comments in their entirety, meaning emails can no longer be quickly skimmed for useful content.1
