I think Tesco is about the only one that allows multiple pulls. But if you have an old Egg account that has now become a Yorkshire Building Society account; that also allows multiple pulls. However, I note that non-Egg Yorkshire accounts, ie Yorkshire's own account products seem not to allow multiple pulls.

Many thanks, Steve. I'll investigate further.

PayPal also allows multiple pulls. To get money back out of PayPal and into a "proper" bank account is now free (a long time (possibly years) ago you had to transfer out at least £50 in order for it to be free; I'm not sure when that changed) and instant (done by Faster Payments).

One drawback of PayPal is that I'm not sure if you can set up a regular, automated pull or if you have to do it manually.

I didn't know about that one. Thanks for sharing that information. Yes I think PayPal did used to levy various charges but to be honest, I'm not sure what they do these days. It would be interesting if it was possible to set up a dd mandate to Paypal for sure.

    .

Tesco couldn't say if there was a limit to the number of DDs one could set up, or whether the pulled account had to be in your name. Having set an account up now, I'm still none the wiser as to a limit, but it appears that the names must match. The discussion on PayPal aside, should Tesco stop their support for DDs we'll have to think of a Plan B:) - probably a commercial agency.

Anyway, thanks for the pointer, Steve. MSE at its best!

No problem. By the way there seems to be no limit on the amounts of pulls you can set up with the Tesco's accounts.

As far as I can work out, Paypal DDs have to be pulled manually.

I think you may be right about that. I have emailed PayPal about this and will post their reply when I receive it.

They have replied and no, you can't set it up to pull automatically.

It does say, when setting up the DD that the "pulled" account must be in the same name as the receiving account, but I went ahead anyway and set up a DD from OH Lloyds to my Tesco and from my Lloyds to OH Tesco and they've been processed successfully.

If you have an offset mortgage with YBS, the linked offset savings account (based on their cash transactor product) allows DD pulls from multiple external current accounts.

And you can have more than one linked offset savings account.

So I'm set up with my plan B, should Tesco start getting awkward about the (8 at the last count) multiple DDs I have on my Internet Saver (plus those I have on my Instant Access Savings Account).
